Handle9: Northland did a very good thing kicking Matt King to the curb at the last election. He’s a rabid anti vaxxer. Now he’s hosting videos with Simon Thornley. What a clown.

https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/checkpoint/audio/2018820774/national-distances-itself-from-ex-mp-after-video-with-discredited-academic

Former National MP Sandra Goudie - didn’t scan and won’t take Pfizer vaccine, claims to be waiting for Novavax.
National MP Maureen Pugh - in October she was still seeking “medical advice” before getting her first Covid-19 vaccination
National MP Harete Hipango - attended Whanganui anti-vax protest
Former National MP Matt King - shared anti-vaccination opinions in 40 minute video on social media
National MP Stuart Smith - retweets anti-vaxxer alleging “massive deaths” from vaccine (deleted soon afterwards)

Did I miss anyone?

Not NZ but.. Macron declares his Covid strategy is to ‘piss off’ the unvaccinated | Coronavirus | The Guardian

Emmanuel Macron has prompted a furore after saying that his government’s vaccination strategy is to “piss off” people who have not had coronavirus jabs by continuing to make daily life more and more difficult for them.

“I am not about pissing off the French people,” the president said in an interview with readers of Le Parisien daily on Tuesday. “But as for the non-vaccinated, I really want to piss them off. And we will continue to do this, to the end. This is the strategy.”

Macron’s remarks came as the French parliament debated new legislation that, if passed, will mean only the fully vaccinated – and no longer those with a negative Covid test – will qualify for the country’s health pass from next month.

The pass, introduced this summer, is required in France for access to indoor public places such as cafes, restaurants, cinemas, museums, concert venues and sports centres, as well as to board long-distance trains and planes.

“In a democracy, the worst enemies are lies and stupidity,” Macron said. “We are putting pressure on the unvaccinated by limiting, as much as possible, their access to activities in social life.”

France has vaccinated almost 90% of its population who are eligible, Macron said, and it was “only a very small minority who are resisting. How do we reduce that minority? We reduce it – sorry for the expression – by pissing them off even more.”

Presumably France provides a pass to people who have a genuine medical condition preventing vaccination as does New Zealand.

Macron also says:  “we have to tell them: from 15 January, you will no longer be able to go to the restaurant. You will no longer be able to go for a coffee, you will no longer be able to go to the theatre. You will no longer be able to go to the cinema.”

The basis of this is that business owners will wear the cost of checking customers eligibility to enter their business.  I have observed first-hand here that pubs are not checking vaccine passes all the time - staff are not dedicated to those checks and move away to get food and drinks to tables when it gets busy.  Add in that bolshieness is a gallic trait seemingly instilled at birth, it is easy to see Macon's wishes will not actually happen for the same reasons that vaccine pass restrictions are not working here.

They finally arrested the bugger. Again.

To what end? He is loving the attention and it makes his followers whipped into a frenzy. I mean the guy is a waste of oxygen, but this isn't really achieving anything except giving him media attention he probably couldn't get any other way.

To what end? Are you suggesting a repeat drunk driver should be let go because he will just do it again? Tamaki is crapping on the law and the justice system. If people like him are not held to account, it all breaks down. He is purposely daring the authorities to jail him. That is precisely what they need to do. Screw his followers. Screw him.

Don't be ridiculous. How could you even make such a suggestion?

There have been plenty of people flaunting the law over Covid including a DJ who could have tripped off an Omicron outbreak in NZ who got *nothing* by way of punishment.

I am simply saying we are giving him the attention he is using to further his agenda. Will it stop the protests or anything of the sort, no.

I see your point & his hardcore followers who protest are probably a lost cause. But I would disagree that the illegal attention won't hurt his expansion; IMO the more he is portrayed as a scumbag who runs afoul of the law the better.

I think its important to show as many people as possible, "Hey look, this guy is a total loser and we're punishing him again and again. Go and join Destiny Church and associate with this total clown, that's how far you've sunk."

I don't see it like that. The people that are attracted to Destiny Church and him in particular, and specifically those who are preyed on by them, aren't going to reason this out. They will see him as the saviour, who is only standing up for the people who otherwise don't have a voice, and that the Govt is persecuting this good man, who helps so many (despite the fact that isn't true).  I don't have any way to prove this, but I'd bet a decent sum, that his coffers fill faster in support during these times.

I am not 100% sure what the solution is (removing his tax-free status would be something I favour as a step toward the right thing). The problem is that the penalties for this aren't going to bother him too much relative to the 'good' press he is getting as a result.

Some real prison time would be a deterrent for someone like him, however, given that repeat drunk drivers don't usually get serious prison time, and the Government has taken next to no action on Covid breaches and the like, there is no real chance of that.

Of course that just fuels their belief that the protest is huge and they represent the majority. Wonder what powers they need that require a SoE to be declared

As I posted in the other coronavirus thread:

Seen elsewhere (Reddit), a very fitting description of the logic of the organisers and participants in this ridiculous, pointless "convoy":

They spend every day marinating in a stew of cognitive dissonance. Adding another bit of hypocrisy to the mix isn't going to slow them down one iota.

Being able to hold two contradictory ideas as true at the same time is a core requirement for supporting fascist governments.

You know, their enemy is both overwhelmingly strong and an imminent threat, but also pathetically weak and deserving of derision.

The protestors are both the most oppressed group in New Zealand, and also the only people capable of fighting the government head-on.

It's just self-contradictions all the way down with these nit-wits. They don't care.
