...and talking about spying, it turns out that Assange was "unplugged" by the Ecuadorean government - not UK/US "spooks" jamming/cutting communication. They claim they did that because they don't want to be implicated in interference / meddling in the democratic process - that they weren't "leaned on" by the US.

This sideshow has me baffled. The "leaks" so far show up Clinton for being a politician, I don't see anything surprising there, that's what they do - spin stuff to suit the audience. Here too.

Perhaps Assange is sitting on something that could be really disruptive. If Clinton beats Trump, then Assange immediately drops a bombshell when he's plugged back in, that'll be very nice for the USA.

Meanwhile, Assange has changed from being folk hero trying to play the high moral ground ticket, to using Wikileaks as a weapon to retaliate against the entire US, which he appears to hate.

I think Assange has good reason to hate the US, but I don't see how unplugging him would stop Wikileaks from publishing anything. He is already at the mercy of the Ecuadorians.

In that case you must believe the Ecuadorians in saying that their decision to unplug Assange wasn't due to them being leaned on by the US.

Assange isn't going to sabotage his only refuge - as you say he's at the mercy of the Ecuadorians.

To me, for Clinton to win this last debate, she needs to drop the attacks on him and concentrate on talking about her policies. She can't out nasty him and the last debate was a circus. Neither were shown in a good light, neither looked particularly Presidential bickering like school kids.

I don't think it would make any difference. Americans CHOSE these candidates. They appeal for a variety of (very) different reasons.

The reality is we will probably never understand, but then we don't really need to, it's not our country.

I'm expecting Clinton to follow-up on Obama's attacks on Trump's character over the past few days - and for it to be a very messy debacle. It's not what she says - it's how she delivers it whilst trying to maintain "the high ground" that will decide - I'm not confident that Clinton can deliver, she'll sound "scripted".

Maybe it's her age/health ie not as sharp as you hope she'd be? At least that's what I am getting across from Trump.

I don't want to be accused of sexism, but it's difficult for a women to "shout down" a male opponent without presenting an appearance of being hysterical. There have certainly been some women who've got over this very very well - Thatcher, our own Helen Clark, and others when in their prime, were extremely quick-witted and talented - with a few off the cuff words delivered with superb timing - they could demolish opposition attacks. That left the male attackers screaming at a woman - an even worse bullying look - so they'd just concede.

Clinton just hasn't got it.

How would you handle debating with a person like Trump knowing he is going to focus on your husband and even having so called husbands ex lovers sitting in room. I think she handled it quite well...she stated at the start that she was going to take the high road...but when confronted with so many lies and garbage she got a bit off topic.

Not saying I support her...but in comparison to her bullying opponent she is miles more ready to be the leader of USA, than the other person.

If it was me, I'd probably lead with something along the lines of 'I honestly don't know how to debate someone who can deny themselves 10 times in 5 seconds and absolutely believe that every statement was true.'

Wow, so far it's pretty good! Both are better than they have been. Clinton is better, but Trump is somewhat coherent.
