Just after some thoughts on this.

The usual crowd at the show grounds offer cash out over EFTPOS with a transaction fee ($3.00). While I have no issue with this (everyone is out to make a buck) what I found somewhat concerning is that the hard installed ATMs were disabled (ASB ATM where the cash out was happening) forcing everyone to use some third party with the transaction fee. I have the following 2 questions.

1) Does the Showground/organiser have the right to disable these machines for their own gain or do they require concent from the respective banks?
2) Shouldn't the Showground/organiser inform their perspective customers that ATMs will be intentionally disabled for the event?

This just feels wrong in this day and age.

Are you sure they were disabled and not out of cash?

I believe so. There was a note on it in regards to the Easter show.
It's just bugging me at the moment. In hindsight, I should have taken a photo (didn't bug me as much at the time)
Also, it was on Friday lunchtime, so the show had only been running for one day so it should have had cash (the show seems to get smaller & quieter every year)

If any punter is there on Monday, any chance of a posted pix?

Isn't it located in the ASB Showgrounds? I find this ironic...

I have seen similar stuff at events. Companies pay for the rights to have their machines in. ATMs are disabled..

Didn't think ASB would be too happy with their ATM being disabled since they have the naming rights to the show grounds.

Large Australian bank with naming rights trumps little EFTPOS provider haha!

Didn't during the world cup rugby, a similar think happen? I recall cash machines were closed, and people had to buy expensive debit cards. And they wonder why people chose not to participate in these events.

What I can't understand is why people don't get money before going to things like the royal easter show etc as there are alwys long lines at ATM machines.

Because there is not always an EFTPOS machine en-route and the detour may be worse than waiting in line.

Yes, During the World Cup the sponsorship issue did come into play heavily. ASB had to not only take their machine at Eden Park out of action, they had to physically remove the machine and all signage and references to it due to ANZ having the sole rights for the world cup.

It was actually replaced by an ANZ ATM for the duration, and then swapped back to ASB after the world cup was over.

ANZ also had 3 portable containers each containing 4 ATM's that they could move around from venue tp venue, but I guess could not be at every venue every time.

Lurking ...
