About time, but I do wonder at the timing of it all. This fee really got up my nose.

When will banks pull away from running their own ATM networks?

They'll probably save a lot by getting rid of some of their own ATMs where there are alternatives already.
ATM...remind me again? What do they do?

TSB have had that in place since forever.
''In recent times we've been getting more and more feedback from our customers that they don’t think this type of fee is fair''
So now all we need is customers to provide feedback on other fees being unfair i.e credit card yearly fees etc
Come on people lets me the banks change their ways!

TSB have been lightyears ahead in many respects for a long time. I am not sure whether anything has changed since I switched away from them. but it used to be that every time I called them, a real person would answer the phone within a few rings (no IVRs in this outfit), and that person could literally help with any enquiry - I don't think I was ever 'put through to another department' for anything.
I do remember that their call centre used to close at 5 or 6pm and was only Mon-Fri which was a little annoying - not sure if that has since changed.

Provide cash, some provide deposit facilities.

You mean like the ones at the likes of the RSA and the like that charge you $2 per withdrawal??

And replace it with the Visa/Mastercard system where the fees are horrendous and will definetly be passed onto customers??

Great news. I lived in Ireland for the last 6 years. I wasn't pleasantly surprised when I found out that no banks are allowed to charge for accessing your own money from another banks ATM. Come to NZ last year to find out banks are still charging people. One of the reasons why I started carrying less cash and using more cashless transactions was to avoid paying this fee. Even though I will continue to use cashless I still like to carry a little cash on me for that time when I just want a bottle of water etc.....
Given that ANZ have the largest ATM network in the country, I suspect the other majors will all follow suit...
Behind the scenes I suspect the big 4 have simply done a deal to zero out the net fees they were charging each other for their customers using "other" bank's ATMs...

Hope so, ASB isn't well serviced by atms, and having to pay to use someone elses is a pain.
