US based/online credit card with US address to use with shipito etc?

Hey,

I've been using Shipito for quite a while to order from sites that don't ship internationally but I've tried a couple recently that reject my order because my Visa billing address doesn't match the address I am trying to ship to (Shipito address).

I remember someone telling me a while back they had signed up for an online credit card with a US address (they were using it to buy tracks on an imported version of Rock Band 2 I think- or something similar that required a card with a US address) that you can credit funds to using your existing NZ card but can't remember the site. Anyone know of something like this?

The other option might be to consider a US$ credit card such as an ANZ Travel Card. You can top this up now while the $ is good and get your money fixed at the current exchange rate which is a bonus if you buy goods regularly from the USA.

I believe (but can't confirm since I haven't run into this issue) that ANZ can load a US billing address against these cards if you ask them. You could then tie this card to your shipito address.

Thanks, didn't know about them, I'll find out about loading the US address.

If I used my NZ credit card at a retail store in the US, are you charged a currency conversion fee for each transaction? (I guess avoiding that is the point of this card?)

I'd recommend MyUS.com, have used them for a few years now and have found them to be very very good.

The "Personal Shopper" service is about $10 per store and they will purchase it from any US store on your behalf and charge the cost to your NZ credit card. This is very useful if the seller only accepts a US credit card. They can then send it to you via DHL. I had a Mac Pro arrive in about three days from the US!

You are charged a small currency conversion fee when MyUS bill you, its only a few dollars usually - I believe it is 1%.

If yo use a NZ credit card overseas all banks charge around 2.5% for each transaction This is a combination of currency conversion fees (which ironically isn't necessary the official exchange rate, it's typically up to 1% lower anyway) and transaction fees.

If you use a travel card because the card is already in US$ there are no individual transaction fees, just a one off topup fee and a 1.5% conversion fee when you topup the card.

You can call your bank and ask them to add a secondary billing address to your card, which will be accepted by the online stores as your billing address, matching you shipping address...

Alternatively, you could also use a debit card instead...they have no billing address associated to them so they work too.

I too have used Shipito, brought 2 Nokia N900s via Amazon....used my debit card with no issues

You'd be better off reading about the card on the site yourself rather than me posting everything here. But to sum it up no - not if the card is used regularly.

I've used another very similar service called BongoUS.
They ship via discounted DHL rates and consolidate for free.
I have a US address set up with them. I only use it on occasion but it is
valid for a lifetime.
