according to the dom post asb bank wants to force the sale of a prostitute's house to get their money back that was apparantely given to the prostitute from a guy who had apparantely been using stolen money:

http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/national/3478718/Wife-stands-by-jailed-banker-who-blew-3-4m-on-prostitutes

pretty sad. if i ever choose another bank i will never go with asb bank. i wonder what would happen if the guy had given tens of thousands of dollars to a women who used it for cancer treatment without the women knowing the money was stolen, would asb bank want to force the sale of her house?

If you had actually read about the case you would see there were claims that she extorted a significant amount of money from him. If this is true why should she be entitled to the money? I don't see what this has to do with ASB being "evil".

Yes I find them pretty good, but not as good as TSB Bank.

Plus they don't $1 if you need to talk to them about a problem.

Same as Vodafone if you are a postpay customer and if you are prepay and the issue is on Vodafone side the $1 is refunded

Or: Same as Vodafone if you are a postpay customer and if you are prepay and the issue is on Vodafone side the $1 can be refunded?

Yeah you have to ask for it to be refunded, and they will fight you for it :) It sometimes  is difficult to tell where the issue is when you are having a problem. It does make you feel 'cheap' to ask for it to be refunded. The better solution is not to charge at all, as imagine if banks begun to charge a fee, and it is not standard practice in NZ for providers to charge for CS, when there is no alternative (email never replied to). Although banks charge fees on most other things, and could be a good way for ASB to make back some of that 19 million.

I agree that ASB should go after everyone they can for the amounts that they have had to pay out to their customers. However it will be very hard for them.

No it's not (always). Despite the problem being on Vodafones side, twice, the money was not refunded - despite my request for it to be.

1st, ASB have no right to chase her, if Versalko was extorted then he has to lay a criminal complaint.
2nd, ASB were fully insured, so suffered no actual loss,
3rd, Once again we see a bank with egg on their face, publicly make threats which cant be legally backed up.

Westpac went on and on about the Gao case ($10mill overdraft guy), and how they were gonna charge him with fraud, theft etc, when none of that applied.
Only laws we could find, revolve around international money transfers, certainly not anything that would result jail time.
They even tried to sue Wynn International Marketing for laundering and that got thrown out.

They very much have a right to chase her. The claim against the prostitue is a civil claim, not a criminal complaint. Totally different from a legal perspective.

ASB certainly do have egg on their face here but that doesn't mean what they are doing chasing after people is wrong.
