The Samsung Smart TV I bought (second hand) didn't come with the 3D glasses.

Do you need to use the exact model prescribed online in the tech docs, or is there alittle leeway? Wondering if there's a cheaper substitute instead of buying the genuine Samsung ones (I've been quoted $80 each from Samsung direct)

Depends.

If the TV is a universal certified 3D TV then they are cheap as chips (and universal)
Gut feeling tells me you might not be that luckly.

What is the model of the TV?

I have a Samsung E8000 and the 3D isn't much to write home about (3D Youtube content was interesting)
I still think that there is alot of R&D still to go on comsumer 3D at the moment.

Which model is the TV. I have 5 Samsung 3D glasses almost in new condition that I want to sell as I cannot stand 3D and neither can family members.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Search eBay - I bought in some from South Korea for my 2011 TV for significantly less than local retail.

From memory they're $80 for from your local retailer... not rechargeable, battery operated and flimsy as all heck.

I bought some from this guy on eBay, they're $US23 each or $US104 for 5. So far the only ones we've broken have been the original ones that came with the TV. Have had them for about 12 months and haven't needed to change the coin batteries so far.

I don't know for sure that these are compatible with your TV but google it.
