Have had MySky HDi for about 3 weeks. Four hangups.

Not given PIN by installers. Not advised that currently only 2 tuners (in contradiction to the given manual).

Disappointed with the poor quality of the recording from MySky to my HD recorder. Much worse than when using the old standard decoder. Is this due to MySky using the SCART connector? Is there a better alternative I can hook up?

And has any clever clod worked out how to pull a recording off MySky on to another recorder? It's supposed to be impossible. Come on -- someone must have cracked it?

Have been with Sky since they started. They exhibit all the faults and unpleasant attributes of a monopoly. Roll on the competition!

Assumpyion: the HDi unit is connected to the TV via HDMI.

Does your HD recorder have component input. If it does and you are not trying to record movies or TV3 (was a post recently that HDCP has been enabled on that channel) then use either the TV out SCART, with a scart to component cable, or the component out output from the HDi unit. Can see the difference on a CRT TV so assume that you will see the same difference on your recorder.

So much to learn, so little time.

Rexliz: I have HD component out activated on my HDi and just noticed today that Sky or TV3 have activated HDCP (I get a meassage saying HDCP failed and it will display as SD only - and then I have to get rid of the message), as component reverts to SD on TV3 only - both sports HD channels don't do this. Anyone else see this?

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that via component only sport will work in HD, tv3 and movies require HDMI for some reason, perhaps someone a little techier can clarify...

On another note - I was having daily lock up problems, figured is was because I had my 360 sitting on top of the STB moved it to allow adequate venting and havent had a problem for the last few days.....fingers crossed!

For billions of years since the outset of time, every single one of your ancestors survived, every single person on your Mum and Dads side, successfully looked after and passed onto you life. What are the chances of that like?

The installer is coming tomorrow (one more sleep!) to upgrade us from digital to HDi on the "Free 6 months with a new TV" deal. I'm not going for the multiroom option - my daughters watch enough TV already!

From reading the above I'm certainly going to make sure he gives me a manual and my PIN number.

Any other tips for a trouble-free install?

How long did it take for sky to get in touch with you after you sent the form away? I sent mine away almost two weeks ago and have had no response - I was a current mysky subscriber, so I am waiting to see my bill before I ring them......so just curious at this stage really

Pretty quick. I can't remember exactly but it was less than a week. They sent a letter with a number to call to arrange the installation. I'm in Auckland - it may vary from place to place?

Has anyone else noticed that when you are scrolling more than a couple of programs in advance on the little guide thing down the bottom that once you go maybe 1 or two programs in advance it doesnt give you a synopsis when you press the i button just says information not available?

Normal sky used to do this periodically for me but I could usually get information on a full nights of programming

yeah, the synopsis info really seems to be lacking a bit at the moment, very annoying.

When the installer called last night to arrange a time to put in HDi he reckoned it would only take 10-15 minutes. This sounds like he isn't going to do anything to the LNBF or antenna cabling at all. Or do anything to anything..

Is this right?

Does this mean I'm only going to get one tuner working?

Am I fretting over nothing?

They pretty much just swap the boxes over - the new HDi stb will do all the work - so no you will get two tuners going

Initially there are only two tuners - so you can record two programs and watch another one that is prerecorded. My installer told me that a technician will come out again sometime in the future and run another cable down to enable the third tuiner - or something along those lines....

My understanding was that the second cable was for the new satellite that Sky may be using when it is commissioned next year. There is no need for a second cable for the same satellite

Ah I see....so the third tuner will be activated with a firmware update or something along those lines?

For what it is worth, my HDi installers said that the upgrade will be via a software download. Person at Sky help centre couldn't give a timing on when this would happen.

What with hang-ups and things, does anyone else get the impression that SkyTV launched the HDi prematurely?

Oh, and another thing -- we used to be able to watch SkyTV on a TV in another room -- provided the decoder (in the originating room) was tuned to the channel we wanted to watch. This worked well when we had a family dinner party and the guests were able to watch the Olympics as they moved between two rooms. Now that facility, with HDi has gone.

So going forwards also involves going a bit backwards?

I'm sure someone can make $en$e of this !!
