Where did it say May 2022 release?
JimmyH:
I already had Ethernet adapters for my original Chromecasts (I purchased three of the ultras in a sale years ago). I also picked up a bunch for about $7 ea on Aliexpress which I use for my Chromecast Audios and Google Home Minis, and my Roku has a buily in Ethernet port. My newer Chromecast is on WiFi as I haven't purchased a hub yet.
Where possible I use a cable, especially for video streaming. It just seems to be more stable and reliable. Plus it frees up WiFi for appliances that can't be cabled (phones, tablets, guest laptops, Google nest hubs, wireless cameras, Alexa speaker, WiFi plug sockets etc) - which makes for a better experience. I had two adult house guests over Christmas. So having five people stream video at the same time might have been an issue, had mot the family streamers all been cabled, meaning only guests were on WiFi. If I can't run a cable I use Ethernet over powerline which seams to work pretty darn well (although I am aware others here have had issues with this technology).
I went through a couple of adapters before I found one that would work with the CCwGTV. That seems more picky than a regular CC. And I ended up getting a powered one, power the hub with the adapter that came with the CCvGTV and then power the stick from the hub. As others have stated, with the WiFi crowding in my house (even 5GHz) ethernet is so much more reliable and stable.

Vodafone TV Remote makes an excellent Google TV Remote because of the channel buttons, coloured buttons, and number buttons, especially becuase it also has the microphone button. In fact I would say it makes a better Google TV remote than the Google TV remote because of this.
To use it like this firstly you need to unpair it from Vodafone TV. Unplug Vodafone TV, and then pair it to Google TV using the Remotes and Accessories section of the settings, and holding down the 3 and yellow buttons for 5 seconds until the power button flashes red.
I have found that it works well with a partially reasonable alternative for Vodafone TV for Freeview access for when Vodafone TV goes out of service in September, of Google TV running the TiViMate App, and using Matt Huisman's RAW playlist, available by searching on Google for M3U8 NZ files to give access to New Zealand Freeview channels plus a few others.
It does cost a small amount for a subscription of $4.99US on Google Play per year for up to 5 devices for TiViMate, or a lifetime version for $19.99US.
Adding MX Player as an External Player setting External player on Player settings on TiViMate allows live TV to be paused for a few minutes. Unfortunatey there is no rewind or fast forward as yet. Addingthe Vodafone TV Remote to Google TV as an additional bluetooth remote for better control TiViMate makes some use of Vodafone TV components which otherwise sould be returned to Vodafone for recycling after September’s closedown of Vodafone TV.
This gives you the advantage of Trackside for free, plus some other additional free channels.
I am working on getting recording working from TiViMate to an SMB attached share on a Windows 10 machine. I shall post here again, how to do so, if I am successful.

If it works with the Google TV I might have to try pairing it with my Nvidia Shield. Would be an improvement over the standard remote.
I have a Chromecast with TV and tried my VTV remote with it, to be honest don't bother it has very very limited use and is frankly not worth the effort and and the clutter of another remote. Mine will be returned with the VTV unit.

It is really mainly of significant use if you are using a TV viewing App such as TiViMate or if you want a spare remote.

Yes although useful in an emergency, such as to establish a new bluetooth remote if the Google TV one is damaged, or as a spare Google Type remote, the Google Home App Google TV remote does not provide the ability to control volume, or swap inputs on the TV, or other buttons except for the basics of navigation, selection, back, power, and voice input, which are on the Vodafone TV Gen2 remote, plus other keys, and very usefull when controlling TV channel viewing and recording.

Google showing Aotearoa some love at last. I hope they now bring more of their products here.
If it works well I might be replacing my Fire TV.

I have one that I purchased a few months back. I love it.

I guess what is defined as well is up to you. I have been using one since they first came out and ditched the Firestick 4K I had.
I like the ability to cast to it (so replaced the Chromecast I had) and Assistant integration so I can use the remote and say Hey Google turn on the lounge and it it executes the command.
If you have a NZ version or NZ Google Account then you can find NZ apps. I haven't been able to install TVNZ On Demand and I had to sideload Neon. But I never watch TVNZ on Demand and Neon is pretty average (came free for 6 months with my 2D broadband)
