Regs: i'm using bladerunner pro 3.5 on my xp-mce box and i couldnt get things working with the "listings-freeview.xml.gz" file.

after editing the "xmltv.xml" (this is the default brp pro 3.5 xml filename, not listings2.xml) and removing the doctype comment () bladerunner worked fine.

Ah right, yea didn't really know the default settings were, was just trying to plug it into my existing setup, also i'm using BRP 3.0 as 3.5 has issues with Vista. Another user (Kellysu) is working on some sort of installer file for it so hopefully that will be more standardised.

Okay here's a mock-up application that does the lot (using Bladerunner35) only tested with MCE2005. Once it's setup, I'm sure tweaking things in the C:\program files\epg folder could get things going in Vista.

So far it will work with Freeview and Terrestrial channels, and a couple of sky channels, slow process but i will add them all.

Hey there,

Just had a look at your app.. pretty cool. I've got all the sky channels we have working with download from the site and are looking towards getting a sat card and using epgsnoop to grab my guide just incase the website is shut down by our friends.

Problem, I can't find any app that works in windows the DVBSNOOP and EPGSNOOP runs in linux :-( and me a windows man so any clues..? I'm keen to share the data file I'll be building when I get it working and I think people is possible should also share so then we have many many sources for XMLTV files

I don't know sorry, I'm a Windows guy myself.... you may be able to try running Linux in a virtual machine, with automated startup every couple of days just to 'receive' the EPG data, I'm just unsure of the support for Digital receivers in a VM.

I think what you want to do is a great idea, and I'd probably like to do the same. I have serval dedicated web servers that could be used, but they're all Windows machines too...

From what I read you won't get the access to the PCI device (SAT Card). So we need someone whom is a half n half to convert the python script to VB or similar..?

There is also a app dvbguide080 but from what I read it will only work with DVB-T cards which I don't think we have the full EPG Guide published on. So, a general call out to anyone who knows windows type stuff and python / linux.. Please HELP

, I will continue to look around to see if there is a solution and post anything if I find it

Hello all,

I can't be of a lot of assistance as I don't know a lot about Windows. I read that dvbsnoop will work under cygwin but it won't be able to capture from a card due to different driver structures.

epgsnoop would likely work under Windows with some modifications (which I'm happy to work with someone on) if there was a way to capture an EIT stream.

Please also note that a couple of things about the EPG;

* You should use epg.pvr.geek.nz as the hostname, it is not guaranteed to stay on the nice domain. epg.pvr.geek.nz will likely be round robin at some stage to help with any failure issues.

* There are also some limits to the amount you can hit the files. You shouldn't notice these if you only download once a day. They are mainly designed to stop people who setup bad cron jobs for every hour or something.

There's also tv_grab_nz-py (http://nice.net.nz/tv_grab_nz-py) an XMLTV compliant grabber which is useful for downloading and filtering channels etc. It's also only tested on Linux but should only require minimal changes to work with Windows. Again, I'm happy to work with someone on that. I don't know if any Windows programs can take advantage of XMLTV grabbers but if they can then this would likely be an easy way of doing it.

By the way, DVB-T will not have EIT only MHEG AFAIK.

the DVB-T we can handle ok (i expect) - there is a nice windows app for capturing that data out directly to xmltv available from:

The key features of DVBGuide are:

Runs from the Windows command line;
Uses any DVB-T tuner that has a BDA driver;
Generates EPG data in XMLTV format;
Generates a matching ChannelInfo.xml file for use with QuickGuide;
Limited support for Windows Media Center category classifications;
Option to set the PC system time from broadcast timestamp;
Option to write NIT, PAT and SDT tables as comma separated value files;
Silent mode for incorporation into a batch process.

EDIT: hmmm. crap... i thought it was MHEG based, but actually I think its EIT based so it probably wont work in that case

Only if it works with MHEG-5 (and the NZ MHEG-5 stack at that). DVB-S has the EIT data which is common worldwide and I'd imagine is what that application works with. The Freeview DVB-T service won't be broadcasting EIT data, only MHEG-5, according to their help and troubleshooting section.

1. It saves on bandwidth use - Existing DVB-S EIT used about 192k per multiplex
2. No existing equipment in place - Any old MPEG-2 equipment for DVB-T was only their for testing.
3. Provides control over the layout of the EPG so that it looks the same on all STBs

The epg download worked very well for a couple of days but now the listings-all file appears to be empty. Can we use the listings.xml.gz instead as it seems to be the only one populated, I tried to get my epg to use it but won't work with GB-PVR.

Ive manually set mine to load listings.xml instead of the listings-all.xml but now my channelinfo doesnt seem to work. When i try to 'add listings to channel' it doesnt show up with any channel names..... help?

Hi, sorry the link for EPG.EXE was broken. It's now working.

I'm working on another version this weekend, it won't give you the choice if channels, it will just give you ALL channels and you can allocate the ones you need in MCE, saves me time, and it will work for everyone. I'm also going to have an option to choose VISTA or MCE2005 for the install. Trying to keep it simple, yet efffective

I WILL ALSO BE FIXING THE DOWNLOAD LOCATION - See the above posts for anyone downloading the current EPG.EXE and edit the c:\program files\epg\Getlistings.cmd file accordingly.
