I purchased a Roku stick from Amazon recently (Ships to NZ) and am very happy with it. Plugs into an HDMI port of the TV. The channel range is limited as it's not a US version but we watch Netflix 90% of the time and a bit of YouTube and both work very well. For $70 I'm very happy.

dont get me wrong mi box works fine on netflix you tube ,just local content in 4k dolby atmos etc ....

I have to say, that since getting the FireTV I have never experienced any significant issue streaming anything from my Plex Server. It's single handledly the best money I've ever spent on home theatre equipment.

brought the nivida shield pricey as but there's alot forums and help about it ...only could find a few sites that sell it Amazon and best buy went with Amazon ,no gst yet might as well buy it

Thanks for your updates - so often seeing recommendations made, and then never heard of again ...

I was tempted by the MiBox, but it seems not now .. maybe a future version could be better ..

I just brought a nivida sheild TV to replace my first generation Amazon Fire TV.

I pretty much use the box to play media off my NAS with Kodi.

Main reason for the upgrade was that that my Amazon Fire TV didn't support x265 playback in hardware. (gen 2 & 3 of the Fire TV do).

Works fine, but I really miss the amazon fire remote setup. (had dedicated pause, Fastforward, rewind, and local menu buttons that the sheild lacks (unless you use the gaming controller).

Main reason for getting the Sheild TV over the Fire TV was that I didn't want to bother sideloding kodi (although SPMC is similar (and available in the fire store) and would have met my needs). Also the 3rd gen fire tv seems to suck compared to the 2nd gen (and needs an additional adapter to plug into Ethernet), so I would have been looking for refurbished 2nd gen units.

I will be doing some thinking as what to replace the original Fire TV stick that runs my bedroom TV (actually a projector).

mine turned up the day i was leaving to gold coast had no time to set it up , i suppose sumthing to play with when i get back :)

thinking nvida shield tv costly but i ve learned from my mistake, i sell the mi box .....

I'm looking to buy a Mi box, have you sold it yet?

I've gone old school with my setup, a second-hand i7-2600 with 16GB RAM, GTX 1060 and a couple of hard drives. I got the basic PC for free, bought the GTX 1060 and have all my content on a hidden away, hard-wired NAS. Couldn't be happier, plays all 4K, Atmos and DTS:X content with zero issues, plus it's quite decent for gaming if need be.

I rather think a GTX 1060 is overkill here. Unless you are doing gaming or 3D, the fanless GT 1030 is what you want. Much cheaper, will do anything needed for TV & video, and will last a very long time as there is no fan to wear out and kill the chip by letting it overheat. I have only ever bought two fanless Nvidia cards, an Asus EN8600GS and an Asus Bravo 220, as both are still going in 24/7 machines after 7-8 years and still do all that I need them for in those PCs. Unless you really need the extra features of a card with a fan, get a fanless model. If you have got a fan on your video card, make sure you put a drop of light machine oil (sewing machine oil) on its bearings every year. Most fans allow access to the bearings by lifting the sticker on the centre of the fan.
