noel leemings email said they were doing a 2 for Juan Pablo Montoya on these
https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/shop/prod133937.html

But I see now that the price looks to just be half anyway, so you don't have to buy two.

Won't ship in time for delivery for my friend in the next 10 days unfortunately.

Thing is, unless you had them side by side, you wouldn't neccessarily be able to worry about it after a short while. You'd have a lasting memory of how it sounded, but nothing concrete. Headphones are definitely like lots of other things, the law of diminishing returns. I'd expect the difference between $5000 and $5500 would be in the low single digits improvement margin and your ears and listening environment and source would become the limiting factor.

I have noticed that comfort is a massive factor for me in how much I enjoy my headphones.

Just jumping in here.  I would wholeheartedly agree that comfort and ear fatigue are the biggest factors for me regardless of price.  If they sound amazing but I have to take them off after 15 minutes they aren't worth it.  Having a big noggin doesn't help with the comfort thing unfortunately.

NZtechfreak:

  • Final Audio Pandora Hope VI, $1000. Seriously good closed can and you will like the sound a lot if I can infer anything from your liking the Grado's. Currently on Massdrop. Comfort-wise I find them OK, however these are not the most comfortable cans amongst this list at all (on the heavier side).
So just as an update (and a thanks for the recommendation!) I went for the FAD Sonorous (neé Pandora Hope) VI's and I am loving them - exactly the sound I was after and I find them pretty comfortable.

I  am really loving these cans and would thoroughly recommend them to someone looking for the same sort of sound signature I was and who is happy to consider something a little more left field.

Cheers

Great! Pleased you like them, stellar if virtually unknown can. Extremely resolving, good soundstage for a closed can, fun sound signature. I really like them. I think I'm batting 100 for my recommendations so far in this thread, rewarding.

Yeah, these I want to hear, particularly if they are like the LCD-4 and a bit of a departure from Audeze previous cans.
