Yep one box contains 4xtuners, 1x320Gig hard disc, and one HD decoder. So you can simultaneously record two different programs, while watching another either off air or off the disc. The inital firmware I understand will only support recording of one program while viewing another off air or disc (as per current MySky) but that will be upgraded latter in the year. The 4th tuner will be for ondemand (well thats what Foxtel is using it for so i guess SkyNZ will also). This means movies can be downloaded to your disc in slow time for viewing when you wish.

It's a shame that the box is going to be let down with a somewhat lacklustre choice of HD channels.

Now if Sky were going to offer the same as their cousins across the ditch http://hd.foxtel.com.au/hd-on-foxtel/channels.php I would be one of the first to upgrade. What use is great technology with poor content?

The other thing that should be interesting to watch will be the bandwidth allocated by Sky. Numerous reports overseas about reduced bandwidth transmissions and less than desirable HD picture quality - "blocky" pictures anyone? Sound familiar?

I really hope Sky use this to improve the quality of their offering, but I am really not holding my breath.

Hmmm it appears to be a $49.95 upgrade (for existing myskyers) and $10 additional for HD content.

Based on the content offering, they really would struggle looking for more!

So is that $49.95 from any STB or just from My Sky?

If it is from any STB, I am really #$% off as I paid $599 for MySky!!!

Just got back from their launch event. From the looks of it it's $49 for an upgrade for existing MySky subscribers. I presume they'll announce the full price soon.

You also get the $10 per month HD ticket waived if you want to keep your existing old MySky box and pay for multi-room.

The HD footage looks &#$king amazing! They had it alongside their SD broadcast. Sport will definitely be their main selling point - it looks amazing.
We also got to have a look around the inside of the new HD OSB trucks. Very flash. A geek's dream.

Not to mention they're going to start broadcasting both HD movies and sport with Dolby 5.1 surround!

Anyway, enough of this drooling...

yes, i agree, the choice is abysmal. I'm disappointed wasting bandwidth on two movie channels, when they can just run them on demand.

I think the $10 also gets waived if you already have multiroom. Like yourself we have multiroom with a MySky and an old STB, and they've said they'll waive the $10 fee. That's my understanding anyway... you'll have to ask sky. If you've got MySky they should be sending you a letter with details...

From my understanding it's the ~~1st of July.~~ EDIT: It's actually going to be the 29th July.
But they may be doing upgrades first... not sure.
