I am currently running plex on a roku 3 and absolutely love it.
With Sky loosing the golf I have now bought online golf subscription service but can only watch it on my ipad.
I could get an appletv and airplay the ipad but I dont really want another device.

Can the Appletv be hacked to run Plex or can a roku be somehow made to airplay an iphone?
I see there are rumours the appletv 4 will be out in June but for for around $100 for an appletv im not too worried.
Any other ideas I could try?

Yes.  Have a look at PlexConnect https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect

I
almost prefer this simpler interface than the graphical ones used by roku.
