Hi there, I am new here and got a question to ask

I recently bought a new house and wishing to buy a big tele.
I am looking at Bravia X 46'' coz its the only LCD that supports 1080p (as far as I know)

The price is about 7000nzd, do you guys think its worth the money?
I also have a HTPC and going to have sky installed soon.

If it is "only" 46" then don't waste your money going for 1080p just get one that does 720p/1080i. From a normal viewing distance you will not be able to see the difference anyway. Have a look at this article for more info.

Personally, I couldn't justify nz$7000 for a TV!

Especialliy if you are just getting it for 1080p.  Do you have a true 1080p source that you are going to plug it into?

But the Bravia's do have a beautiful display

If money doesn't matter go for the big screen.  Personally I just bought a 37" Acer LCD for just over NZ$2k

Good bang for buck

Once the big screens come down in price and when (IF!) we get HDTV in NZ, or a proper 1080P source, I'll be able to flick that TV off and upgrade

Looks like a nice TV, but where did you get this for just over NZ$2k? I can only find them for around $3.5k.

I can't brain today. I have the dumb.

Its 1080p "ready" whatever that means.  I think its 1080p over component only.

But for the money its a great TV

I think it was pp.co.nz that had them on sale I think it was last week for $2.4ishK

I got mine wholesale

Well virtually anything is possible, including selling stuff below cost

But we're actually talking about different makes and models here

I'm referring to an Acer 37"

Companies may sell stock products below cost, but not with new products like Bravia X.

I had a quick look around in the $7k price bracket you are looking in.. Why not get one of the new 60" Sony full 1080HD bravias? Some geek facts that make me go all squiggly..(look at that response time!):

·     Triple 1920x1080HD SXRD panels - one for each primary colour
·     Over 6.2 million total active pixels for unsurpassed picture definition
·     Industry-leading 10,000:1 LCD contrast ratio - pure black image reproduction and outstanding gradations
·     Industry-leading 2.5 millisecond high speed motion response
·     Inter-pixel gap of less than 0.35 microns - no visible on-screen pixel structure
·     1080 HD High definition signal compatibility (1080p, 1080i, 720p)

I would post the link to this model on the Sony NZ site, but their site is all flash and sucks goat balls. The model is: SONY 60" SXRD Bravia KS60R200A.

The CRT ones might have had this issue. THe modern RP (LCD, DLP or LOCS) don't have this issue at all. And you get much bang for your buck if you have the space for them. The only issue for them is bulb life - expect to replace a bulb every 2-3 years depending on your usage.

I caught the Sony SXRD 70"in a Sony store recently - outstanding!

Ichiu7 is correct the current rear pro's are nothing like those of old. They do not get any burnin so are ideal for PC use. The new ones although not flat are still not deep, my 42" is 300mm deep. They are lighter (weight) then plasma and around the same as LCD screens.

Rear projection would be $$$ wise if your room permits.

Along with "mostly" better black.
