Hello,

Firstly Here is the set up that the inlaws have:

Toshiba 42HL800AZ
Sky box (not My sky)
dvd player
Onkyo tx nr515
wharfedale diamonds speaker pack.

When I initially set it up the receiver / speakers the remote worked fine. But when I went to upgrade the firmware on the receiver the other day, the remote would not work.

Every time I pressed a button, the sky box indicator would flash red (once). It was as if the remote was trying to operate the sky box.

I'm hoping there is a easy solution to this, I wasn't smart enough to fiure it out.

Thanks in advance!

Have you you tried a Factory Reset on the Remote?

and then you add the codes again in for the TV/DVD PLayer/Sky Box so you can control everything with 1 remote.

I have an NR818 and can control TV/MySKY/PS3/XBOX/AppleTV all with the Onkyo Remote.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply.

I didn't know you could do that, will have to look into that.

That would be amazing. They are up to 4 remotes at the moment, and not at all tech savvy.

I'm assuming there is a function on the onkyo menu that enables you to put the codes in?

Where do you find the codes???

Thanks

You do it all from the remote.. Instructions are supplied with the Onkyo Unit or can be found on the Onkyo website.. There is a list of a huge amount of TV/Devices etc and you put those codes in and they just all worked.
Some devices have multiple codes you have have to try a number of them and you'll find one which works.

http://www.uk.onkyo.com/downloads/2/0/6/7/4/Manual_TX-NR515_En.pdf (manual describe it all)
and if you can't find the code there.. just search for it on the net.

The only device I haven't found a code for is the igloo box but I use that rarely. If your TV does CEC then controlling it via the Onkyo Remote ususally just works out of the Box (if you have CEC turned on AMP and TV)

Ah right.

Thanks for all that info, really appreciated.

I should have looked at the manual (wherever it is!), sorry.

I'll give that a go over the weekend.

Thanks again for your help!!

Just an update. The tv and dvd player works but not the sky.

The sky is a very old box (not HDMI)

There isn't an Motorola Sky Satellite decoder on the list of devices. I tried a couple of Motorola devices listed but it didnt work.

I found a site where you can operate the receiver / surround sound by using the sky remote, but think that was for MySky / Sky+.

Does anyone know if it can be done on this sky box!?!?

Cheers

The Onkyo Remote is a learning remote as well so you can teach it the commands :-)

See: http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-remote/thread.cgi?9107

There are a number of similar remotes that comes with the Onkyo Receivers but you should be able to look into the manual and it will tell you.

Thanks for the reply and link, very interesting and clever.

I had a look through the manual and couldnt find anything about the remote being able to learn new devices.

A quick search didnt bring much up either. Just contacted Onkyo as it's also their job to educate me lol.

Thanks
