I backed up all my stuff i have when I saw using windows vista on an external harddrive, then installed windows 7 and restored all the files and folders and my internet isnt working. The computer should be connected to the internet via the ethernet cable from the modem but all it says is its still "Identifying" the network.

Help please

You need to install the drivers for the ethernet adapter.

You should have downloaded it before reinstall. Now you need to get the correct computer/motherboard/ethernet model, donwload from the manufacturer site using a friend's computer and copy it over using a USB memory key.

Well your motherboard is a "MCP61PM-HM (Nettle)", with a realtek "rtl8201n" network card.

The drivers look harder to find than usual. Your best bet may be to grab a new network card and bung it in. They're only about $10-20.

You'll need to get the right type. The two bottom slots on your motherboard are pci, the next one up is pci-e. You'll want to know which one/s are empty before you buy.

They will probably work fine, they won't do any harm anyway.

Can you find the drivers though, that's the trick.

Does it show the network connection? if it shows it, chances are it has the driver. Without a driver installed, it won't show the NIC state at all. What output do you get running
ipconfig /all
from a command prompt?
