New article on the NZ Herald today

Television New Zealand is unveiling plans for its new Freeview channels - TVNZ 6 to start in September and TVNZ 7 in March next year - and it's promising there'll be more choice for viewers.

Perhaps they could start another channel and move all the reality shows to it - that would give us "more choice" without having to navigate around the reality dross.

I really have no idea why they want to make a news channel - like NZ really has that much important stuff ever going on.

I mean, the 6pm news as it is is pretty damn terrible, most of the 'national' news stories are terrible.

would rather a channel dedicated to [crappy] NZ shows, and another channel dedicated to getting shows from the UK + US :], atleast we could then have 1 decent channel ;).

What do you mean?
a) There isn't enough interesting stuff happening in NZ to create news
b) The news is all bad news
c) The news isn't reported well
d) YOU don't find the news "entertaining"
e) All of the above!

TV in Raro is classic, those home made ads are great.  Don't forget the one channel, that's not even on 24 hours. They do show One News there too, pretty much live.  Also there is still live sport on free to air.

As for the new channels, they show some promise.  I like choice.

Probably not, at least in the short term.

Got this from Sky when asking about their V8 Supercar channel...

"Unfortunately any new channels available on FreeView can only be viewed via the FreeView set-top receiver."

Surely it would be in the interests of Sky to allow their STB's to able to receive FTA channels as well as Sky although I doubt that this would be possible by a software upgrade alone. What do you guys think?

Well that is dumb. Means you have to have two decoders to get all the channel coming off 1 satellite. Also, if you had Sky Multiroom as well would the LNB's on the Sky satellites be able to feed 3+ decoders or would I have to have an array of dishes on my roof depending on how many decoders I have in the house?
