will be putting my HTPC in a different room to the TV in the new build.
how can i get the logitech k400 keyboard signal to the pc from the lounge?
cable run would be about 8 meters...i assuming a big daddy USB extension lead or bodged cat5/usb adaptor wont work?

any suggestions?

USB cables only come in lengths up to 5m due to the USB standard from memory. I have a setup similar to what you are trying to achieve, albeit with a different brand of wireless keyboard. I connected 2 USB cables together and put a powered hub at the lounge end of things with the receiver plugged into it. Seems to work okay and definitely gives me a more stable connection than wireless through a couple of walls did.

I know of 30 metre USB (v1.1) extension cables. Won't do USB 2 speeds but I doubt you can type at those speeds :-)  1.1 is adequate for keyboards & mice.

i was thinking about just  soldering a USB socket to some cat 5 and plugging the logitech receiver to that and terminating the other end in a USB plug, that way i could have the receiver in the lounge? worth a crack ya reckon?? i might do a dry run.
i take it that the IR blasters dont do the logitech signal?? Was going to try and keep everything minimal with just a small 2 pos architrave mech plate under the TV to house the IR blaster/logitech receivers discretly

My soldering skills aren't that flash. That's why I went with standard cables. I have the advantage of some fairly large holes drilled through the bottom plate and nogging in my walls. Able to take up to HDMI sized plugs. Where ever possible I will hardwire rather than use wireless though. The wall plate sounds like can elegant solution.

8 meters is not far, you might even get viable performance at that range just with it's wireless connectivity. Depends what's in the way I guess.
