I've been doing a little research on region free dvd/bluray players in NZ.  It sounds like there are currently no ~$100 players in the main stores, which are able to be region-free'd.  However, the Laser BLU-BD1000 (or 1080/10803D) are advertised as being region free for both BD and DVD, and people commenting describe it as being painless (unless you got a dud unit).  The only complaints are about audio not playing for some media files on USB, but then again how many devices do you need that play media from USB?  My TV does it.  My satellite receiver does it.  It sounds like a good choice at $120 postage included.

Has anyone got one?  How do you find it?
