Does anyone know? I can't wait for 1080p broadcasts.

Next year Sky will be providing some HD services, but it will be a long long time before you see any 1080p  broadcasts. International broadcast standards only specify 720p and 1080i, which is all any broadcaster on the planet is providing.

The BBC HD test in the UK was mostly in 1080i. They broadcasted a 16:9 anamorphic feed of 1440x1080. This was between 13-15 Mbps.

At present even with H264 1080p consumes too much bandwidth.

I truely wonder whether we will ever see broadcast 1080p. With a majority of people having TV sets of 42" or below and the difference between 720p and 1080p on such small screens being so neglegible there is probably no business case for the vast sums of extra money required to support the extra bandwidth that is required for 1080p over 720p

This could be a posibility with IPTV - of course the infratructure would require a bit of an upgrade first.

If anybody could that it would be TCL. With DOCSIS 3.0 you can deliver 160Mbs which is faster than anything in the DSL space. And Telecom are unlikely to build FTTH in existing residential with all the bleating they have now about the LLU wholesale costs inhibiting investment in the network
