Has anyone tried watching YouTube videos on a large LCD or Plasma, 46" or above?

If so, what was the quality like? Was it watchable or too pixelated?

Why oh Why would you want to?

Have you even tried running Youtube video's on your current monitor at full screen? How does it look?

I have a 22" widescreen, and youtube videos look horrible on it!

I do not even want to imagine what it would look like at 46", I imagine I would kick the the bucket after only seconds of watching it.

Seriously, watching some shared short video is something, but make it a serious TV replacement and even move it to a TV? To watch those thousand, millions of "American Home Video" style shows?

I've had this request for myPVR. I did a demo of how bad it could look and someone assumed it was the hardware rather than the poor quality YouTube video files.

Ah, someone disconnected with reality...

"It's horrible picture!"... Let's blame on the installer or hardware. I don't believe YouTube quality is that bad...

Yeah someone should tell TVNZ that them nice new Thompson LDK6000 HD cameras they bought last year are a waste, they should just use mobile phone cameras, they are way cool.

Exactly... Some people don't quite grasp the concept.

So, this guy went out and bought a 46" LCD (possibly) HD and wants to watch YouTube videos - and then complain about the quality, as if "all YouTube videos are of the utmost high quality in content and technology"...

Laughable really.

Firstly, I am asking on behalf of a customer of mine. I had already advised that it was more than likley to look terrible, but as I had never tried it (Not having a TV of this size myself) I thought I would ask someone who had. Thanks for the speculation tho...

To take a contrary view....

I quite often have a session watching YouTube via the PS3 on either a 32 LCD or even on the projector and find it quite OK quality wise albeit with the knowledge that I am watching a very low bit rate feed . I enjoy it as a break from the normal TV programming and there's always something interesting...gadgets, science, favourite blogs etc

I've tried on both a 29" CRT and a 50" Plasma. Both were pretty much unwatchable.

I use GB-PVR which has a built in You Tube viewer on my 50" Plasma. The picture quality is pretty blockly but it does vary from video to video - some are watchable and others are terrible, it really depends what it's recorded on.

Remember that a 50" Plasma for example is running a similair resolution to a 19" LCD monitor, typically around 1280x768 or 1366x768 so instantlly all the pixels are around 3 times the size. A typical LCD has a dot pitch of around 0.25mm or so - a 50" Plasma is around .80mm

YouTube is only designed for viewing in a small window, try viewing a typical YouTube video fullscreen on a computer monitor and you'll get a fairly rough idea of what it will look like but remember it will be a lot blockier as all the pixels are 3x the size.

If I fullscreen the youtube player I end up with a slideshow unless I back the PC res all the way down to 800x600 or lower.

I read somewhere that the new flash player would support overlays so perhaps that will solve it.

Oh, and youtube doesn't support 16:9 content either.
