Can anyone offer an opinion on the LG 60LA8600 ?  Our local Noel Leaming has one on offer at $2999 reduced from around $4400, and after looking at screens for the last couple of weeks, this looked quite good.  I've found mixed reviews, with one saying black levels were not outstanding, while this review on PC Mag is pretty positive.

I wish they dated their articles though.

You may also want to consider Panasonic THP65ST60Z for $2,700 at Farmers - at least in Wellington.

In my opinion, you won't go far too wrong with this model for the picture quality in that size at that price.

That article keeps referencing the 55" version, but is titled with the 60" model...

Basically, it's last seasons TV, and the new ones are out in January around about CES time.
So, effectively you're looking at a 2 generation old TV, I'd be expecting to pay A LOT less than that...
The 60ST60 would be nice if you have a dark enough room.

+1 for the panny. I own this model, love it.  Wouldn't swap it for quids.

I'd kind of come to the same conclusion since starting this thread.  Plus this was the shop floor screen that had been endlessly playing the Noel Leaming banner for goodness knows how long, so I've given up on that deal.

I've just come back from two hours touring the retailers in Blenheim, taking notes, and looking at screens.  The Farmers deal for the Panasonic sounds outstanding, but I didn't think of looking in Farmers today.  65" would be the upper limit of what I could reasonably put in the space where the current TV is, and probably as much as my wife would go for as well.   I'll call in to Farmers tomorrow with my fingers crossed.

If this comes to be it will be a good Christmas with our VDSL2 going in Monday just gone.  We went from 1.5Mb/s during peak periods to 33/6 Mb/s any time of the day.  And now Spark have announced a wee price cut for the unlimited plan.  laughing
