I am trying to enable the recording function on my Sony KDL 50W670A but it says USB drive not recognised when I try to register. Yet it has no problem reading the drive for playback. The Sony support site is worse than useless. I can find no mention of the recording function at all and the site is broken anyway. I have also scoured the Internet but can find nothing about this. Can anyone lend any insight into this issue? Does the drive have to be formatted in a particular way? Is there anything that can be done to fix this? The total lack of any information whatsoever is very frustrating.

USB Recording: Flash or HDD, 32GB to 2TB (Drive will be formatted and paired with the TV)

You don't say what you're trying to use, but no it doesn't look it matters what it is formatted as it will reformat it.
