Hi,

I see in the December issue of Sky Mag they talk about HD and I found this on the net about Foxtel, I guess they are starting at the same time. So they must have secured enough decoders. the link for the Foxtel is http://hd.foxtel.com.au/

I aim to misbehave.

From the FAQ

HDCP is not supported on component video cable, which means that some HD content is not accessible through these cables

Surely they're either going to turn the ICT flag either on of off and not force it on some shows and not others? How crazy would that be!

It was always my understanding that the ICT flag is operated on a per program basis to comply with the copyright holders request, rather than a blanket setting. In general Broadcasters never wanted or cared for protection, only program producers have jumped up and down to produce the DRM issues we see, broadcasters have in general reluctantly had to comply or risk not been supplied with material.

ICT flags here are really quite stupid. Most of the content we get here has already been screened in the states, caped and torrented. And turning them on and off per program will just annoy a whole lot of people. It would be just like HD/SD switching.

If you are connected via an HDCP/HDMI circuit then you will never know a thing about it.

As has been mentioned the ICT flag is generally a requirement by the content owners rather than the broadcasters.

Initially Sky in the UK haven't been enabling ICT for HD services as too many customers have component only HD TVs. Here in NZ and AU they expect to start using ICT immedately for all first run movies and big sports events.

Word I had from a SkyUK contact is that the major material providers (US movies houses in particular) had come to an informal agreement that the ICT flag requirement could be relaxed till sometime around 2012.

However in a small market like NZ/AUS that has a much smaller prevelance of pre HDCP HD displays, and have had quite a late release of HD service, hence most non HDCP HD displays would be heading for retirement, I would suspect they would be insisting on compliance.
