I'm looking to replace my aging Panasonic blu ray with the Sony BDPS5500 blu ray player.

As the new Sony has capability to play a variety of file types direct from my NAS, I'm wondering if it will have the capability to replace my WDTV Live as a media player?

Anyone with experience of using the Sony as a network player? Is it up the task of my WDTV live?

My experience is that Sony doesn't play as many files as you'd expect, the user interface is somewhat clunky and slow at times.

Early days, but BDPS5500 seems well behaved enough, DLNA served by UMS 5.30 to second room.

Have just recently installed the Plex app on my Sony Blu-ray players (one is DLNA capable, the other not) and it works very well.

I was eyeing up an appletv 4 given Plex would be available on it, but now don't see the need.

Agree with above though, the sony native media interface is rubbish
