Hello. Im new to these forums and new to much of the lingo used to discuss freeview or satelite broadcasting in general, so please excuse me if I ask a few noob questions!
Now - at present I have a chipped x-box thats networked to my PC downstairs, but the network seems to be dodgy at best and I have trouble streaming video content. I also have no sky nor freeview at present.
I have decided its time to go freeview. I want to be able to watch 1 channel and record another AT THE SAME TIME. My options therefore seem to be:
1) Get a freeview set top box that has dual tuners and built in network capability and some sort of PVR software which will utilise the EPG and record via the network onto my PC downstairs.
2) Build a small compact quiet PC to use as a media centre and keep in lounge. Ideally I like the ultra small units that look too small to have room for a single (let alone two) PCI or PCI express cards such as:
Acer Aspire L3600 http://hardwaretechreview.com/acer-aspire-l3600-review
or
Gigabye HA91 http://www.gigabyte.co.nz/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ProductID=2031
I would also like DVI / HDMI outputs to go straight to my LCD TV, and a digital audio output to go to my home hifi setup.
If I did go with something like either of the above, I would need something like a USB device to manage the freeview decoding right? Anyone have any suggestions as to what to go for and where to get it?
Also - can someone explain the difference between DVB-S and DVB-T? We use the former here in NZ right?
Many thanks in advance for your help!
Cheers,
AL
