if skytv broadcasts a sport channel in hd will users who still have an old skytv decoder not be able to receive that channel anymore or will skytv have to broadcast in both hd and broadcast in sd for users with non-hd decoders?

Based on what SkyUK do and Foxtel have indicated, the SkyHD Sports channel would show HD sports programming that would be simulcast on one of the SD Sky sports channels. I would be pretty sure SD viewers will not be missing anything other than resolution.

Basically the Sky Sports channels carry on as now, but if an event is available in HD then it would be simulcast as appropriate.

Edit, this gives an indication of the simulcasting, and yes it is in HD, the first HD sports broadcast from NZ was last tuesday for the Mt Eden game.

Bet Sky would  dumb down the resolution even more than now to try and get the sports fans to move to HD..

Hi,

I think you will find that like Sky UK they will upgrade all Sports channels to SD widescreen because the Rugby channel will not have that point of difference anymore, and then plug Sky Sports HD as the new point of difference, I would prefer more SD Widescreen than a single HD sports channel but I would still get it.

I aim to misbehave.

the question is, do Sky UK upscale footage for their HD channels?  I would be sceptical as to whether it was actually HD.

I too would rather see more SD WS channels than one measly HD channel.  It would be nice if we get ESPN in HD like Aus are going to.
