So I've recently installed an GPU into my Htpc, but whenever it wakes from hibernation, the TV / receiver doesn't recognise it so I am left with a blank screen. As a work around I have to change the input on the receiver to eg USB, and then back to pc mode where it shows the display / PC home screen.

It has to be the GPU/driver issue because it was fine using just the CPU. If I restart the PC it is also fine.

Setup:

Panasonic 50ut
Onkyo TX NR515
Gigabyte F2A88xm hd3
AMD A8 7600
AMD R9 270
HP ir USB receiver
Logitech Harmony 650 universal remote control.

I have tried the following:

Update the drivers / amd catalyst software
Roll back drivers / software
Delay PC power on
Delay TV and onkyo power on (HDMI cec)
Changed input from PC to cbl/Sat (to test if receiver was issue)
Enabled pass through on receiver.

I've searched and tried lots of different things but still no joy.

Does anyone know what the problem could be, or suggest some more things to try?

Many thanks

Do you really need a standalone GPU?

If so, put the Radeon one on trademe and try a nvidia one?

I do occasionally game on it, BF4 and CoD.

Don't say that, it took me quite a while to finally get a GPU! lol. Can't really afford/justify spending more money on it.

I just pulled out an AMD HD6450 from our HTPC and replaced it with an Nvidia GT730 with passive cooling which is working much better.  The AMD drivers kept crashing within a couple of minutes of resuming from sleep or hybernation.  MediaPortal crashed silently back to the desktop.  I had put up with this for 6 months after updating to Windows 10, hoping for a driver fix but had to bite the bullet.  Around $100 but not really suitable for gaming.

Thanks for that, so it looks like the card/drivers are the issue. I would have thought being a newish card they would have fixed any bugs etc.

I'm assuming the nvidia equivalent is the gtx960?

The GTX950 performs the same as the r9 270 if not a tiny bit better.

I'm guessing you are new to the world of AMD?

When they are new and competitive, their drivers tend to suck. Then they finally make them stable, but the card it too slow.

I'm very new to the world of Gpu and components in general, so had no idea about AMD.

I'll keep an eye out for second hand nvidia card, someone may need funds to upgrade to the 1070.

if you need low profile you will need to get a GTX 750ti. My media PC only takes low profile cards.

For Full height a GTX950.

What is actually wrong with the driver. What is it not compatible with? is it particular software? Are you running Linux or Windows?

I would turn off hibernation, and edit the power settings to spin down all the drives etc.

I'm running 16.6.1.

Mine has the r9 270 which fits my Silverstone case quite easily, I'm assuming the gtx are similar size.

I'm running Windows, and there is no display when returning from hibernation / sleep. I have to change the input on my receiver eg USB and then back to PC mode for the display to appear.

Thanks for the tip, I'll do that as well.

Have you had a play round in the Catalyst control panel, perhaps in the HDTV Support section. Perhaps add the 1080p@50 res and configure it as a 'custom' format, even though it's not custom..

Sounds like you having a problem between the built in APU's GPU and the discreet R9-270 almost like the computer expects the signal from the APU's HDMI instead of the R9-270's and when it doesn't get a monitor signal from the APU's HDMI it just leaves the screen blank. Using a discreet GPU along with an APU can cause issues that can take some dicking around with to solve

Checking here http://www.cpu-world.com/info/AMD/Recommended_graphics_cards_for_AMD_dual-graphics.html seems to state the compatible GPU for your system is the R7-240

Can the APU's GPU  be disabled from within the BIOS

If switching the input at the receiver resets it then it may be an HDMI handshaking problem.  See http://site.hdtvsupply.com/hdcp1.html

I've disabled the onboard graphics in the BIOS , just set northbridge to enable gpu (if memory serves me right).

That definitely seems to be the case tho.

I'm sure I've power cycled everything, but may try again. I've also changed the HDMI cable.

I am actually wondering if I have a very similar unit to you. I have a silverstone case which takes a mATX board its quite a nice looking black case, maybe about RU high. And i have a dual core Pentium G620 in there with 4GB ram. Its an Asrock board with a B3 chipset. The case takes 1/2 height cards. I was looking at getting a GTX750ti for it.  I am currently running the onboard graphics and its working pretty sweet. I dont have the same problem as you do.

I was wondering if you take the ATI card out and then use the onboard graphics, does it still have trouble waking from sleep mode?
