Hello
I am interested in purchasing a large TV such as a 42" or 50" (like 1080i or 1080p – hi-def). I currently watch a lot of .avi files that are recorded as:
frame width 624
frame height 352
so I guess that is 624 x 352 resolution, right?

When watching these on a big screen is there any pixilation or lack of image quality – since the image has to be blown up to fix the full screen.
Currently I watch them on a 32” TV and they seem ok.

If I understand it correctly in a hi-def TV the 1080 is the frame height, right?

I watch a lot of avi files on my 47" 1080p screen and while there is noticable pixelation it is still very watchable.
I haven't actually seen a 720p or 1080p video on the TV to compare it with, if I did that I might not like the avi files as much

Ohh you guys...
You need to buy a blu-ray player.. your missing out!!

Put it this way...

Im not downloading anymore divx or avi ect.. or buying anymore DVDs..

The hiDef bluray blows then all away.. and i cant go back to watching anything under 720p

Like the OP I have been watching avi files on a large screen (in this case a 56" DILA RP 1366x768). I have my PC set to output 1080i since that is better than outputting 720p.

After watching both BluRay and HD-DVD on this set (I bought both to be sure!), even at 720p the resolution is very good and I also will no longer be buying any more DVD's. Interestingly though some of the 1G mkv files out there in 720p are quite watchable on the TV - better than DVD quality but not as good as true HD
