As title suggests my AV receiver turns itsef off. However it only does it when I first turn it on (from the remote). After about 5 seconds it turns itself back off. I press on again and then it stays on and works absolutely fine for as long as I use it. If I turn it off and on again once it's "warmed up" it doesn't do it. Only when it's been off for a while.

Have checked speaker cables not touching, etc and tried a factory reset. No luck. Not to do with heat as it only does it when it's cold and it doesn't get hot anyway. It started doing this recently, was fine for years.

Any ideas? Seems strange it only does it the once...  Unit is a Marantz SR6003

Cheers

No idea what's causing it, but experience says it won't be getting any better over time.

I think it's time to take it to the repair shop for a check-over.

HDMI-CEC issue? Something plugged into it telling it to turn off again??

Odd that it would only happen once though...

But certainly worth checking as a firmware update to one device in the chain can cause havoc elsewhere.

To me it sounds like there's an issue somewhere in the circuitry of the amp though as CEC probably wouldn't fail once, then work perfectly 5 seconds later.

Disconnect all the speakers and add one back at a time.

Our Denon (cousin of Marantz) home theatre did something odd a couple of years back. It would turn on and no sound. If you turned it off and on a couple times it would work. Drove me crazy. Finally googled it and someone reported something very similar - suggested solution was to blow hard into the headphone jack. Yep - it worked. Apparently a tiny amount of dust could cause the headphone jack to think headphones were plugged in so it cut the speakers off.

Ok cheers, will try disconnecting everything and carefully reconnecting. Only two speakers plus a sub so will see if it's any of them...
