How to get the media files to play on the SONY 2016 X9300D panel which is mounted on a wall 3m across the room from where the fibre/HG659B is.. must be wireless theres no reasonable way to get a HDMI cable to the TV..

Have 4 x 5TB Seagates. Have Wi-Fi that looks like this, tested on a MacBook Pro using Wireless N, the HG659B & SONY X9300D are both able to talk on Wireless AC presumably..

Here is the floor-plan... panel is approx. 3m from the HG659B

Would a Synology DS916+ with the discs in it work?

Or rather, what is the prescribed method, to stream this media collection to the panel.. tried Chrome Cast which stutters terrible on much over 10Gb & some of the newer SONY releases are 50Gb+ files.

single story? roof space/under floor space? cables will always be better, cat6 cable would be very easy to run if its a single story, with roof or under floor space. i know you said must be wireless, but havent said why cables are impossible to run.

So the files are stored on a DS916+ NAS? You should be able to install plexmediaserver on it and the plex client on your tv and connect it to your server.

Android TV, so install either VLC player or Kodi / SPMC from the android store.

Fire those up and map through to your computer/NAS by inserting the appropriate user/password to access the remote device.

Sit back and watch.

If you have issues with Wifi then investigate hardwired options.

Thanks team,

So it is Floor 32 Metropolis Towers, unless the cabling is visible running across the carpet, or pinned to the walls and ceiling there is no way to get an HDMI cable or anything to the wall that's effectively free floating in the middle of the apartment that has the panel mounted on it... the wall is about 40mm thick, about the same as the TV, there's no way because of the marble flooring/carpet to get a cable underneath... would need to basically buy the apartments above/below... we had 2 guys, telco installers, look each, at the ceiling construction whatnot, its a serious major to get a cable from the router etc across to the centre of the space where the TV is mounted on the thin wall that effectively separates the apartment into living/bed rooms.

The only cabling, in the wall, where the TV is mounted is a double 240VAC outlet and the Co-Ax for freeview... the TV is very thin, sits extreme flush with the wall, theres no space, or anything, to hide nothing... especially not 20TB worth of media.

Has to be wireless and we assumed, possibly wrongly, that a $6k Wireless AC X9300D sitting 2.5-3 metres from a WiFi Router giving 85Mbps Wireless would suffice?

Should add, laptops are MacBook Pro's, all phones are iPhones...

Media is stored on 4 x 5TB Seagate powered HDD's

Was considering buying Synology DS916+

Some files are >50Gb in size...

It should be fine on wireless. Use a good quality wifi router. OR a good wireless AC access point. It will be better being cabled in. However your options seem somewhat limited unless:

1) You get brush plates set up to run cables inside the walls. - This Could be Difficult not not possible.

2) You could try power line adapters to take pressure off the Wifi if its bad.

If you are in an apartment you may find you have wifi speed problems if there are a lot of devices around (other appartments as well). It is a 4K TV so that uses roughly up to ~25Mbps (because netflix has good compression) but poorer encoding can be up to 40Mbps.

Sorry, can I just query/clarify what the issue is here?

Have you got a streaming solution in place, but the wifi is not sufficient for your needs?

Or do you have wifi only and are looking for a streaming solution?

With an Android TV, what you're asking for is a piece of cake. I have it running exactly like this in my lounge right now, wifi'd for now to the router/access point in the room next door.

If you've got all the components and can't make it work, then that's a different support request type discussion.

How much space is there around the power point? you could perhaps look at powerline ethernet adapters to get hard wired networking of a sort there.

If no dedicated server, run Plex media server off a macbook pro with the storage attached, download Plex app for tv and away you go. If wireless is spotty, look to run powerline adapters.

Thanks Team, appreciate the excellent learned assistance, as you see, we know nothing...

darylblake: because the wall design is just a separator between the bed & living rooms, it’s kind of essential nothing except the TV is there, the place is very small, and having anything else ‘protruding’ from the wall would be detrimental to liveability, it has to be wireless. We have tried powerlines before, and they were just absolutely terrible, in that house we ended up spending a lot of time/money running CAT6 & adding 2 extra Apple Airport Extremes in the rooms that needed better network access.. in any case powerlines cannot go on this wall, would be a unsightly nitemare. Most of the wireless around us is 2.4Ghz and there is very little 5Ghz, what there is is all on Ch 36-40 pretty much this 5Ghz channel our TV is on is at Ch 60. The TV has AC wireless, the router is a HG659B which has AC Wireless.. test shows that a MacBook Pro sitting between the TV & Router/Model gets 85Mbs

Jaxson: We haven’t got a streaming solution… we’d though the TV would see the 4 x 5Tb powered HDD’s that are all full of .mp4 files & play them - the X9300D seems not to notice on the same network as it is on there are 3,500 films… So, if we got a Synology DS916+ Quad Core, attached that to the HG659B and popped the 4 Discs in it, we could install Kodi or Plex onto the NAS & the X9300D and we’d be golden, yes? Can anyone tell us, would the DS916+ play the .mp4’s or would the X9300D.. how does that actually work, what does ‘the work’… theres something that has to play the files, some files are 65GB, and they have to stream across the room, 3 metres, from the discs to the TV using WiFi Wireless AC right?

This is the NAS, we were thinking of ordering, we though this populated w/the 4 x 5TB .mp4 filled powered Seagates, would be capable of streaming 65Gb MP4's using the HG659B AC Wireless & X9300D AC Wireless?

until now, the 4 x Seagate powered HDD's were connected to a Plugable 7-Port USB3.0 Powered Hub, this had been connected to a RS6351A HighPoint that went via Thunderbolt to either a MacBook Pro, Mac Mini or Mac Pro. Everything worked perfect, there was a 1080 TV on the wall, a few metres away and we could stream almost anything, but now we are on a new TV, in a new 'house', the TV is a 4K 2016 65" X9300D and we cannot run a cable to it... we tried Chrome Cast which was useless, stutters so we though we could buy that Synology DS916+ and stick the 4 x 5TB HDD's in it and stream across the room to the X9300D

As an aside, cannot say enough, about the Plugable 7-Port Hi Powered USB3.0 hub, it kills anything else we have had, and the HighPoint RS 6351A Thunderbolt dock face new life to a late 2011 MacBook Pro, an incredible device.

Personally I'd put VLC player or Kodi on your android TV and see if this can navigate to the NAS first.

As above, that's what I'm doing right now, and it's meant I don't need the Xbox One S to undertake this task anymore, instead using the app on the TV directly.

If your laptop can see the NAS, then I'd expect the TV could too.

Please, elucidate: what files are you playing please, our average file, that we play now, is over 10Gb easily, and many are 25Gb or 50Gb and we do not see this reducing, as more content is shot on the 4k format, the file size we are playing will start to be greater on average..

What wireless speed is the (your) TV seeing? (a MacBook Pro sitting midway in-between the 3 metre space from our HG659B Modem/Router------>X9300D is seeing 85Mbs)

How far away is the (your) TV? (ours is 3 metres from the HG659B fibre internet router/modem & potentially from the Synology DS916+

What type of files are you streaming, how many GB, are they mkv's or mp4's or other? (ours are all mp4)

What NAS do you have? (we were looking at Synology 8GB RAM / Quad Core Processor DS916+)
