I have a Acer Aspire one 1-431 with Intel Celeron CPU @ 1.60GHz and 2GB Ram. OS is Windows 10 64-bit with a x64 based processor.  This is the problem, its to slow to run Windows 10 and its fairly new and came with it.   I am wanting to install kodibuntu or Remix OS (android OS), and just get rid of Windows 10 completely.

I am going to use it for a dvd player and streaming box. Which OS would be better for this system?  Also, I have a 1TB external HDD that I use on my Windows 10 PC that has family vedios on it.  Would I have to reformat it for it to work on any other OS?

Thanks for the help

The issue with Windows 10, as i have discovered a couple of times when transcoding a ton of video or running a backup, is that you only have limited control over the OS. In particular, you can't turn off the stupid auto-update "feature", although you can limit it somewhat by hours. So you may settle down for a movie, think you have an 8-hour encoding job running, or whatever. But part way through it will decide to install updates and reboot.

So I agree with getting rid of Win 10.

I would go with a bog-standard Linux install and then put kodi on top of it if I were you. That's probably the cleanest and least hassle solution. And no, you shouldn't have to reformat your external drive.
