hello,

massively frustrated here. Have connected my Denon AVR-1713 to my 65in LG smart tv. I have sound through the receiver when using blu ray speaker but cannot for the life of me get tv sound via Netflix ( note, have not yet hooked up to aerial to see whether terrestial tv works, but i am presuming not )

TV is LG 65UF850T

When the tv turns on, it now powers on the Denon automatically, which it wasnt earlier in the evening when setting up, so i thought i was getting somewhere. The receiver used to work with an older tv set up used up until last week, so there is no issues with the receiver. The TV internal speakers work, and as mentioned , when using blu ray, it all goes well so the hardware is not the issue, just my setup

On working through the tv settings i have selected Audio OUt HDMI ARC and turned Smartlink on

I am completely bamboozled !!! Any geniuses out there ???

Made sure its in the ARC socket of the TV? I have hassle with my TV in that one socket has ARC and another has HDCP 2.2 and yet a third does 12 bit because LG are obviously idiots, so I have to swap cables on my reciever depending if I want 4k from the reciever to the TV, or if I want audio from the TV to the reciever. It still turned on with the TV when the cable was plugged into the other socket that didnt do ARC

I had a similarish sort of problem yesterday with my setup. Sony TV and Sony receiver though. Turning the TV on would not turn the receiver on but turning the TV off would turn the receiver off. The receiver wouldn't play sound at all from the TV and trying to change the TV's settings to use the receiver kept failing. Blu Ray worked perfectly.

After a while I noticed the Freeview receiver was powered off and wouldn't power on. I disconnected the Freeview receivers HDMI cable and suddenly everything started working as it should.

A long sad sorry to get to my point - check all items connected to your receiver are working properly and check your HDMI cables.

I can not get any sound to my Onkyo from my LG tv via the ARC, it just will not work, I had to install an optical / toslink cable to get sound.

I changed HDMI cables etc and it just would not work.

There is a sound setting you have to select for external sound   settings ==> sound ==> sound out ==> external speaker.

Cheers

John

You will find this advice on-line a lot, so I'll summarize.

1: Buy + install an optical cable.

2: Turn off all HDMI CEC / ARC functionality.

3: Buy a Logitech Harmony remote and never look back.

4: HDMI CEC is fraught with issues.
