Hi, fellows,

I am a newbie to the dreambox 500. and I live in the apartment in city. There is connection in my room(in the wall, I do not know the english term for it). and I can see the UHF antenna in the top of my building. So according to current setting in my dreambox. it is 2 satellite and 22Khz off for Ocpus 160.

I use auto transponder function in dreambox 500, I can get all the FTA channel in new zealand tv service. But I want to add WTV into my dreambox. If I do not use dreambox, I can watch one free chinese channel in the TV (from WTV service). In WTV website, it says that that channel is free and through UHF 62. But I can not locate it via my dreambox. Is any one can help me out of there?

I am quited confused about the UHF antenna, is it some kind of satallite dish?

so you have a DM500-S? this is for satellite only, you wil need to hook into a satellite dish if it is available.

for UHF, you should need a DM500-T, which won't work with NZ Freeview anyhow.

Thanks for quick reply. I am not sure the subtype of my dreambox. When I have it, it has been set up. I can see annetta in the top of my building. It is shared by all the tennants in the building. I can use dreambox to get the NZ free2view, such as TV2 TV7 TV1. Maori TV.

Since before I have a dreambox, my tv can receive one chinese channel, WTV( or CTV, www.wtv.co.nz), I also want to use dreambox to get that channel back. ....too bad.

If you can pick up WTV in Auckland, then you will need to use a Satellite / UHF splitter and plug your dreambox into the satellite feed, then connect using the SCART or RCA Composite connections into the AV connections on your TV, then plug the UHF into the RF connection on the TV, so then tune Channel 1 on your TV to WTV.

So to watch off the dreambox select AV, and to watch WTV select Channel 1.

Pain in the .... I know... but no other way to work around it.

Hi, bartender, I check your blog. I think my box is set according ur guideline in the blog. Thanks for that!

I have one question about the UHF. Because in SKY website and Free2view website, they say that they will broadcast their program via UHF, too. I think that it is the reason that I receive many program in my dreambox since I can see only annetta at the top of my building, not dish. So I think that my box can pickup the UHF signal.

So I get quite confused that why my box can not pick up UHF signal from WTV(UHF 62). can I have a dreambox to pick up the satallite signal and UHF signal together without a splitter?

Your Dreambox can only see FTA signals from the satellite at 160E (Optus D1) thus you will get all the FreeView channels. However CTV8 is transmitted on UHF CH62. As Bartender says you need to get a diplexer like this The Satellite port goes to your Dreambox, the TV port goes to the RF input of your TV, you then need to tune your TV to Ch62.

The Fconnector in you appartment has both the Satellite signal and off air antenna signals diplexed together, the above diplexer will reverse this. You will obviously need some extra cables and F>PAL(Bellinglee) connectors to attach the TV ouput of the diplexer to the antenna input of your TV.

No the dreambox wont but 20odd dollars of cable and diplexer and you TV will once again.

Or you could get a FType to RF PAL connection and plug into the "OUT" connection on the back of the Dreambox, into the back of your TV... In theory that should also work :) Just so long as the TV doesn't mind also getting the LBand satellite sigs... which I don't think it would.

Peter you have to be carefull doing that, many if not most TVs will infact present a very low impedance above 900MHz thus will scuttle the Lband signal. There is also now a requirement placed by many new building specs that when diplexed V/UHF&LBand MATV systems are installed that diplexers are now fitted to the faceplate. If a TV upsets a port on a tap (even with a 10-20dB tap isolation) it can have some ill mannered effects on other taps. It is now a Sky mandatory requirement to use a faceplate diplexer in such installs.

Hills now produce a diplexer (that is Sky approved) that fits in a 3 or 6mech PDL plate (using two mech holes obviously) so the tenant/ownered is ensure to use a diplexer. The diplexer by its nature will ensure that a poor termination in the Lband on the UHF port will not effect the input to the diplexer nor the signal to the Sat port. Clipsal also have a diplexer that fits their 2hole mechplate

So here comes a questions, where can I buy a qualified diplexer in Auckland ? what is Hills? Sorry for such idiot question since I come to Auckland for a short time.

Any Dick Smith outlet should have one of these (product code L4696) or can order it in. It is the correct and suited part, you will need a couple of cables to go with it. If you have trouble getting F-F connector cables (as the wall socket and DreamBox take, then contact me.
