Connecting to my 1 Year old Samsung 49" Curved Smart TV.

Connected from HDMI out on Soundbar to HDMI Arc on TV.

Volume changes on sound bar (from lcd indicator) but no sound comes out of either my PS4 or the Sky Box.

In the settings for the TV it shows Speaker is Receiver HDMI other options are TV Speaker  and Audio Out.

I can play music via bluetooth. I don't have a optical cable to test.

ARC appears to be working, no sound though!

Did a reset of the sound bar, when it powered up sound was coming from the TV. Hit input on the sound bar to TV (options are USB, BT, TV, Optical). and sound went away!

Not sure what else I can do.

Try another HDMI cable. I had one that didnt ARC properly, but would pass 1080p 60 just fine.

@richms thank you! I had considered it earlier but discarded it as I could control the volume of the sound bar with the tv remote despite no sound coming out.

Strangely enough I had a spare hdmi cable in my travel bag and it worked a treat. Strangely the cable I used was about 5 Years older than the one I had plugged in.

Sadly, the sound bar isn't as good as I had hoped and barely a step up from the speakers on my samsung uhd 6500 series!

Will plug in the sound bar tomorrow. Too freaking tired now to actually play games.

Cursed technology lol

Sadly - many entry level soundbars sound, um, like a way to take consumers money with very little in return.

Spending $800'ish+ (RRP) seems to net some better results though.

Re: ARC / HDMI CEC.

Some things that can disrupt it working correctly include...

Poor HDMI cables... you may be getting picture / sound in one direction, but it doesn't mean the manufacturer hasn't cut costs elsewhere - I've seen a lot of cables (expensive and cheap) fail to work with ARC.

Products being powered off in the wrong order. We all know that person who gets up and turns off the TV at the front of the unit and not via remote...

One of the best ways to get ARC working is to power everything off at the wall, unplug it (for a few minutes) and then reconnect power + power everything up again.

CEC is the work of the Devil, the Devil formally known as CEC.
