We are in the US for a few weeks and I intend to buy a Sonos Play:1 (1st gen) to use back in NZ. It’s multi-voltage etc so that’s ok - just need to change to a NZ mains plug. (or use an adapter). I can buy it here for US$150 (about NZ$220) from Best Buy or Amazon.

I have the options of either:

- simply bringing it back in my checked-in suitcase, or

- getting Amazon to mail it to our neighbour for me to pick up when we return. This costs about +NZ$45 but I’m not concerned about this cost.

Would welcome comments or advice on this in case there’s something I haven’t thought about.

Haha. It’s pretty much the size of a cube sat so Rocket Labs might be a better fit. Falcon Heavy is overkill.

We are actually in Florida not far from where this took place today.

Do not, under any circumstances , seriously consider bringing the speaker back 'internally'.

Your funny walk will give you away at customs.

How is this considered 'home theatre'?

Mods - should it be moved? Single mono plastic speakers do not a home theatre make...

OK - so where should I have posted this? Fact is it will be part of a home theatre and Sonos gear does actually make a very good HT - considering that is merely plastic etc (insert other disparaging words here).

It's not just the funny walk - making beautiful music and taking hands free phone calls out of your butt will also attract attention.

... and I have short fingers so probably wouldn’t be able to reach the volume control to turn it down a bit.

Almost every customs related question seems to be asked in 'off topic'.

It's not an issue with the question, just the placement of it.

I stand by my comment re: small plastic mono speakers though...

You may be right but is this the end of the world? Mods haven’t yet agreed with you. Haven’t you got better things to do? I get the impression that you wouldn’t be so offended if I was buying, say, a B&W speaker. Sorry.

If we are going to be moving threads, Move the "best bang for buck 4K tv" thread from the off topic forum to this forum.

If it's a small, plastic, mono B&W speaker... then yes, yes I would have an issue.

The real answer is...

The category of 'home theatre' is poorly named for a general 'geek' website.

It would be fine on an audio only forum... but unless someone renames this 'speakers / TV's / home cinema' I guess we're stuck.

And do I have better things to do?

Nope - stuck in a Koru lounge...

Do you?
