So does anyone know what the transponder frequency and symbol rates of the transponders Sky are using for their HD service?

Also, are they DVB-S1 or DVB-S2.

thanks

They have two HD half transponders both running DVB-S2

12331 H 22500 2/3
12358 H 22500 2/3

further to this, has anyone with a DVB-S2 card managed to get lock and tune on these transponders?

Also interested in this, though you need someone with a 45xx card, card reader, mysky HDi, dvb-s2 card and sky working to test it. Anyone match all of these criteria?

I have just tried to scan those frequencies with a HVR4000 DVB-S2 card and cannot get a lock. Is the 2/3 FEC rate correct?

Cheers Mike

one would think that even without the cards, you should be able to get lock on the transponder and see the channels.  Decoding them is an entirely different matter.

Also, even if the PIDs and what have you are hidden, you should still be able to get lock on those transponders I would have thought.  You'd just scan and get no services on them.

By 'lock and tune' i assumed you meant getting a picture. But yes you could get a lock with just the card i suppose.

I pulled the information out of Sky's NIT table

            Frequency: 19083520 (=  12.33100 GHz)
            Orbital_position: 5632 (= 160.0)
            West_East_flag: 1 (0x01)  [= EAST]
            Polarisation: 0 (0x00)  [= linear - horizontal]
            Kind: 1 (0x01)  [= DVB-S2]
            Roll Off Faktor: 2 (0x02)  [= Alpha 0.20]
            Modulation_type: 2 (0x02)  [= 8PSK]
            Symbol_rate: 2248704 (=  22.5000)
            FEC_inner: 2 (0x02)  [= 2/3 conv. code rate]

sorry I should have been more clear.

step 1:  get lock on transponder
step 2:  tune in channels on that transponder (should be able to get this far with Sky)
step 3:  decode (if necessary) and watch tuned channels

Cool

I would imagine one should be able to get to step 2 with any DVB-S2 hardware, but it seems harder than it would seem for some reason.

MyTheatre 4.0 Beta & HVR4000 'locks & tunes' if you specify the FEC 2/3 & 8PSK explicitly rather than rely on the Auto feature (which works for DVB-S) - I believe that is expected behaviour of this recent beta release. GBPVR does not see them on a standard scan - I haven't looked why - nor have I tried to enter them manually.

So decode should be possible with a 45 sky card with a HD subscription.
