Hi folks,

In an attempt to get a better understanding of what kind of specs I should put into my HTPC, I have comiled a list of various peoples h/w specs.

I've gone through the first couple of pages of the "Show & Tell" thread, and itemised each persons specs in a table.

Originally, I was just doing it for myself, so I could make easy comparisons, and see what kind of specs work well together. However, I figured I would make it publicly available (and editable) on Google Docs for all to see / ammend...

I looked for some way of doing this 'in house' at GZ, but didn't find it...

This is a pretty large task, but good luck.
From my observations there are 4 main configurations of a HTPC which you could catagorise by CPU, then the appropriate ram amount and graphics card for each performance/price point
Low end dual core, usually AMD 5xxx or 4xxx
High end dual core, usually Intel e8xxx or e7xxx
Low end quad core, usually AMD Phenom
High end quad core, usually Intel Core 2 Quad

Nice idea. It would be good if people can comment on what it is used for. ie I currently use mine for dvb-s and playing HD movies but hope to eventually get HD TV if MS start supporting it.

I will modify the details you have inputted regarding my previously proposed HTPC, as I have now built it and can confirm what I used.

nice idea. I have added mine to the list. Just getting into the HTPC scene. Haven't bothered with a discrete graphics card as I'm not interested in using my HTPC for gaming. Will be used to store and stream my DVD collection, play Blu-Ray movies, lastly and most importantly it's going to solve all the fighting in my house.
