I think the answer is YES! :) Or NO.

LOL! Interesting post!
I wonder what could mislead him, maybe the blue-ish design of Geekzone made him to think this is a Greek website?? :)

I'd go for the samsung 6 series over the 4500W series sonythe 200hz on the Sony makes no difference at all according to many reviews and is merely a marketing plot to get more money
Try changing your character set from greek to western ISO or something readable too :)

oh whoops, I was thinking the wrong series :S

in that case it's a bit harderSamsung would be slightly more expensive, but looks better having the smaller bezel and no front speaker in grey below it, apart from that both Panels are so similar it'd be hard to tell the difference in picture quality

I posted a bit more detail on this in another thread. Essentially, I was looking for a TV and narrowed the choice down to Samsung, Sony or Panasonic. The Panny I was interested in was hard to source (virtually no one seemed to have stock and it wasn't in the Boxing Day sales) but I looked at both the Samsung (full HD Series 6 and 7 models) and Sony (W4500 series) side by side. Essentially, the Samsung and the Sony's have the same panel but the "brains" that feeds them are different. Essentially they were both gorgeous when fed with an HD signal, but when fed with an identical SD signal the Samsung coped well but the Sony "fell apart" - pixelating and artifacting like crazy. IMO the Samsung was both cheaper and better, so this is what I purchased. Very happy with my choice.

This is interesting as the Sony W series won the best LCD TV award from What Hifi! in 2008 well ahead of Samsung. And trust me What Hifi knows what they are talking about.

BTW I have a Sony Z and both SD and HD feeds are stunning.

What HIfi will have had more sophisticated tests than mine, and I know that it is a reputable publication. All I am going with is what I actually saw using the good old fashioned Mark I eyeball test

. In the first shop, which sold Sony only, when they fed an SD signal into a Sony set (W4500 series) ut all of the rapid movement dissolved into a blocky pixellated mess. Even the salesman could see it was bad, although he was a bit offended when I pronounced the picture awful, and he tried to spin me a lioe that it was "unavoidable on any HD set when watching an SD signal". Plainly this is rubbish, as other TVs don't do this. In the second shop they ran the same signal through a number of TVs - including a Samsungsung A750, a Panny and a Sony (V series this time) - from memory it was a C4 over the air music video. The Samsung and Panasonic boxes were fine, but again the Sony fell apart. I sawe a differece, and that differnece was very noticable. Even the LG set, which was loads cheaper, seemed to have a slight edge over the Sony.

As I understand it, the Z series that you have is quite a step up from the W series, and in particular they have paid more attention to smoothing motion (200 HZ etc), so I suspect the problem does not exist for your box. However, if I had the cash to buy a Z series, I would probably still have gone with the Samsung and spent the saving on upgrading my somewhat antique sound system instead - which is this years project.

Anyhow, I am very happy with the Samsung, 40" screen, a good suite of connectors (more HDMI ports than the Sony) and (to my eyes) a great picture.
