I have just purchased a cheap-ish soundbar to improve the sound from my TV (Veon 55" 4K and a JVC 3.1.2CH)

The sound bar is displaying ARC but the sound only comes on for a fraction of a second then nothing for a few seconds then back on for a fraction, rinse and repeat.

If I switch to Bluetooth the sound is fine.

The specs for my TV say it has HDMI ARC.

I have set the TV to PCM.

I have tried all three HDMI connections on the TV, same result.

Any suggestions on how I could get it working correctly?

Thanks.

Remove your other HDMI sources to the TV and see if it behaves any better. You may need to get a CEC blocker for a problem source if its something else plugged into the TV that causes it. Generally only one of the HDMIs on the TV will do eARC and the sound device has to be on that one only to get audio.

Thanks, I removed the other HDMI input but am still getting the same onandoff sound issue.

Tried different cables between them at all?

Guess you are going to have to try to get some support from the vendor that they came from. It should just work and if nothing else is there to mess up the CEC negotiation between the 2 devices then its an incompatibility between them, and if the same place sold both things....

Good luck, you will need it with that place.

Otherwise if you don't care about needing 2 remotes then the optical cable is a tolerable option if you only watch stereo or dolby digital content.

Getting weird, I have found my optical cable and connected that, now the sound is "echo-ey" like there are two audio streams slightly delayed. :-(

I recall my Veon required a specific setting enable order for success. I don't recall what it was. I restarted TV and Streamer and sound bar at various points in the process.

The other parts required were:
- Must use HDMI 2 for audio out
- Menu > [Window Icon] > HDMI link > All options = On

I'm unsure if cables were a factor. I tried several during the process. With all the factors above it eventually worked one way or another.

I use Google TV Streamer with the Veon. It is possible there were some required settings in GVTS like TV Out Default HDMI. I restarted it a few times. GTVS has an auto setting for the sound format and that part worked ok for me.

Echo-ey effect was because the sound bar AND the tv speakers were running, I thought the tv speakers would disconnect somehow. In the meantime I have just turned the tv volume to 0.

I have a GVStreamer too, any thoughts on connecting that would be welcome.

The TV has no idea if you have other speakers when using the optical output or not. That is why ARC is so much better, if you power the soundbar off the TV will turn its speakers back on and vice versa, also the TV remote will change the soundbar volume and in some cases even know when its muted.

HDMI ARC on Veon TVs seems flaky (at least it has been on 2 Veon TVs I have had wiht my Panasonic soundbar.
The current TV turns my soundbar on when powering up and sometimes (about 50% of the time) then turns it back off after about 30 seconds.
Plugging same soundbar into a TCL TV this doesn't happen

Had a similar problem with a Bose soundbar and LG C8 TV, just could not get them working no matter what i did, online advice etc they just didn't want to play nicely together. Saw a few people with similar problems so gave up and just used the optical cable connection and everything works and sounds fine. Apple TV remote and all-in-one remote turns the volume up and down on the soundbar (which is left on all the time, not a major).

Not a problem for me with veon tv and cheap Panasonic bar. I'm guessing GTVS is doing the hdmi cec for it.

In GTVS I'm using Coocaa TV brand for the remote setup. In "Display and Sound" I have HDMI-CEC enabled.
