Im after a pair of bookshelf speakers to hook up to my old amp (old kenwood HT Amp) in our living room for streaming and my old technics 1200 for records. They will be sitting on a buffet not wall mounted.

Not after high end speakers and would ideally like to keep the price to under $500 to keep the wife happy. Based in palmy, anybody able to recommend a set or have a set that they can suggest based on personal use.

Would any of the Edifier range suit ? I have these ones for my PC, and they've been fantastic.

I might be looking at the higher side of the Edifiers in the new year for my setup as all the speakers I obtained from my father have damage unfortunately, and prob cost oodles to fix. The Sony's work well but are pinched from my wifes system :D Something smaller would be better.

I’ve got the edifier 1860s or something and unfortunately being powered I can’t hook them up to my amp.

I was looking at the mtx monitor 60i that soundhub locally here has but they are quite big speakers and don’t pass the aesthetic test of my wife

Q acoustics 3010 would be in budget. Good sound for the $

per that picture above avoid putting speakers on the same platform as your record player. The speaker vibrations don’t do the needle any good

I have a pair of Q Acoustics 5020 speakers. They have great sound in a small package, but they are probably  a bit outside your budget.

I'm a big fan of Q Acoustics speakers especially in the affordable bookshelf category. Someone else recomended the 3010, to be more sepcific I would go with the 3010i which is just a newer and updated version of the 3010. I have an earlier version of the 2010s and still sound fantastic.

This place currently has them for $399 which is a bargain.

i'm seeing a fair bit of these on TM, presumably from those who have moved to soundbars. if you're ok with that route, you might find a gem in your price range.

KEF Q150, got them on sale for 275€ (555NZD). 🤔 But the exchange rate has been better, hasn't it?
