Hey I just recently purchased an Onkyo DV-SP405 and after spending a wad of cash on it found that it doesn't play any of my american dvds. I assumed that since it was so expensive it would be region free as a lot of dvd players are these days. I've looked on the internet but couldn't find anything, anyone know any shops that could help me do this? Much appreciated. Im in christchurch also. Thanks in advance

You could try that..... but no guarantees.

Thanks heaps for that, worked a charm :-D

I used this below

Region Free

---- Using the RC-698DV remote that came with the DV-SP405-----
1) Press HOME MENU on the remote control (SETUP).
2) Go to INITIAL SETTING option and then the press ENTER button on the remote
3) Highlight OPTION and then press DISPLAY button on the remote.
4) The Firmware and region code (1 in this case) will be displayed.
5) Using the remote, press the 3690 numbers
5) The machine will go to stand by mode
-------------

By the comments on that page looks like it only works to convert non region 1 players to play region 1 dvds, awesome. Freaks and Geeks here I come :-D

Thanks again man!
