I've been able to run the outputs from my Sony Bravia LCD to my SONY compact av system (DAV-SV8) to get a better sound. I have also been running my DELL laptop through the TV via VGA/audio cable and the picture/sound work fine.  


However when I run the laptop into the tv and try and run the sound from the outputs to the av system the sound will not output through the av system. Similarly I have tried to run the sound direct from the laptop to the av system, but again no luck.


Is it something to do with the sound card in the laptop (ATI Radeon Mobility X300) - I notice it defaults to the monitor setting rather than using the TV setting ?


Or is it the format of the sound coming from the laptop - the av system is getting on a bit and does not support sounds from my ipod....
