Hi all. So I got the sony home theatre that I asked about in my last post, and it sounds great. But the only problem I seem to have, is when it plays upscaled dvds. I have my PS3 connected to the 'BD in' via hdmi cable, and hdmi going from 'tv out' on the system to the tv. When it plays bluray there no problem. But upscaled dvds seem to have this snow flickering on it.
Any advice? Maybe faulty connection for tv out?

If you're using the PS3 to play the DVD's then you need to check the upscaling options when you're playing a DVD. This trickery is very good but does need to be setup to get the best results for DVD's on your system/TV etc. I'd check there first and make sure you're not applying too many digital enhancement features, or applying them too strongly. I find the PS3 upscaling to be great, but I did have to tweak it a bit first.

If you're using some other DVD player to play DVD's then use the PS3 instead.

Hey thanks for that. I actually found a way to fix it *yays!*

I did try changing some of the settings and this seemed to reduce the noise bit (changed BD/DVD Video Output Fornat (HDMI) from 'Automatic' to 'RGB') which made it watchable.
But the way I fixed it was changing the output resolution of the PS3 from 1080p to 1080i. BD still come out as 1080/24p but now when DVDs are upscaled they're at 1080i (which doesn't make any difference from what I can see)

Sounds like the passthru cant handle 1080p50 or 60 - or your cables are too crap for it. how is gameplay in 1080p? It should make a marked difference since there will no longer be a second deinterlace happening in the display in 1080p, which will in 1080i.

Haven't tried game play yet, the only really good game I have is GTA (others are singstar haha) but will gove it a test today.

I thought maybe the cables too, since one of them is a DSE one, other is from Harvey Norman (not too expensive about $50 I think) I used o have the HN hooked up from PS3 directl to the TV which was perfect, so me thinks this new cable is crap
