I'm looking to purchase a blu-ray player and because I have many UK & NZ DVD's I need the DVD side of things to be multi-region. I'm not wanting to get the top of the line job - in fact was hoping to pay $500-$600. I don't mind too much if I have to apply a code or similar to the player to make it multi-region so long as its reliable. Any suggestions?

There is mention of it being region free (DVD only) on some websites - would pay to check first though.

i've got the samsung bd-1500 and it's fairly easy to make region free if you can still find one (it's now been superceded by the bd-p1600). i only paid $399 for mine about 6 months ago.

Panasonic DMP-BD80

Full featured; onboard HD audio decoding, 7.1 analogue output, DVD multi-zone (done by an official service agent after you buy it).

Superb performance (BD, DVD, even CD).

Nice to use, well built, reliable , great price, often discounted to ~$600.

A friend just bought a Sony BDP-S360, plays region 1 DVD just fine, might be worth checking out
