Hey, I was after something for my dad to watch movies on with ease so have decided to do up my old shuttle and install windows 7 on it so that he can use media center (which seems to be very user friendly).

Anyway, i'm having trouble finding a good remote, can anyone help me out?

I was thinking of getting a mce certified one since it should hopefully mean that everything will work as its meant to, and will have things such as the 'green button' which fits together with mce.

I have found a couple from NZ sites but they seem to be old versions or something? I searched on Ebay for remotes and it comes up with nice looking ones but unfortunately no one will ship to NZ :(.

Maybe i've missed something but any help would be most appreciated! Thanks in advance

What about Dealextreme.com? They have good prices, no shipping fees (although it can take some time to get things down here). I have their RSS feeds here and just spotted this Media Center control http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.34434~r.99999999

Thanks for the awesome replies! I decided to go for the Deal Extreme one that Freitasm suggested as $16 was too good to pass by. I know its only a cheap one but it should do until the newer models hit NZ.

Thanks again :)

Of course let us know how it works. I am using the Microsoft one, but good to know if others work too...

my case came with a remote, but i replaced it with a harmony remote - means i click 'watch tv' and it turns on the computer and gos to tv menu, turns on the stereo, tunes in the right input and turns on the tv and switches to the right AV channel. was easy to program too with a usb connection. the harmony doesnt come with the IR receiver though so buy a hauppauge etc now, and replace the standard remote with a harmony :]

It scared me to think of a synching scenario where a macro toggled the power for all my equipment, but tv was already on. I made a design decision to avoid requiring macros.
volume up/down and main power button has been reprogrammed to amp and tv, but I leave htpc and amp on 24/7.

I have to give the srm5100 another promote. It's a good little remote and I see pricing specials on them regularly (less that $50). It's a proper MCE remote with a windows button and even does the "text" searching for recorded tv properly where my other hauppage remote didn't.
