I've just discovered this forum. Currently I have an old HTPC which is wired through to a hauppauge media mvp which I use as a client with GBPVR.

I'm thinking of upgrading to the dell zino HD and connecting it directly to my TV. I would like to purchase a HomerunnerHD unit which I will use to capture DVB-T. My HTPC software would be Windows 7 media center. The only problem would be EPG data. I don't want to invest in all this given the uncertainty about sources of EPG data over the internet (?legality). Is it possible to use a DVB-S tuner to grab EPG data for windows 7 media center but still record using a DVB-T tuner? This would give the benefit of HD which is available only over DVB-T.

Can MCE have setting for a tuner to be EPG only (it's something that MediaPortal can do).

Or why not use GBPVR with your homerun? Its works as well. Then there are definitely options for using the dvb-s for epg only.

MC7 allows really good variations for managing your channels. They can be individualised if you want dvb-s EIT, or dvb-t EIT for example.

You can prioritise which tuner is used with each channel too - for recording/watching. My four dvb-t tuners are always numbered 1-4, and the dvb-s tuner is #5.

But, I don't use the dvb-s EIT to record from and i rely on an xml epg source from nzepg.org and BSE to add it to the epg sources list in Media Center. The reason for this seems to be a bug that will cancel or stop a recording "due to a schedule change", but where no schedule change appears to have occurred.

Otherwise I would be happy doing this, and would recommend using it if just watching, and not recording from the guide (but who does THAT?).

dazza139, this is the setup that I use for my guide. It is definately the easiest to set up - everything is taken care of by Win7. I haven't experienced the bug that mthand describes. Not saying that it doesn't exist but it is not a biggy. Advantages are that Win7 merges the epg from both sources so you will get listings for the couple of channels that are only available on DVB-T albeit only now/next listings. Also you have the DVB-S tuner for watching/recording the couple of channels not available on DVB-T. Simple to set up the priorty of the cards so that you always record in the best available quality.
