Hi all,

a number of us are attempting to complete our HTPC systems with OTA epg direct from the satellite/cable provider via the tuner.

The majority of us are in Australia and are having difficulty finding a solution. We know of E2_loadepg for enigma boxes that access the OpenTV stream and want something similar for Windows 7 media center PC's.

I thought this might be the place to ask this question as Sky is pretty much the same as Foxtel here.

Does anyone know of a solution to our dilemma or know someplace where we could find the answers we want?

Have you had a look at the MHEG5 Grabber? Is it missing something that can be easily added?

Is MHEG5 and OpenTV the same thing?

Given that Sky NZ and Foxtel Aus are pretty much identical.

I think there's some confusion in this thread. MHEG-5 is an ISO standard (although each country has their own profile) chosen for Freeview NZ's guide but isn't used by Sky NZ. With DVB-T, only the MHEG-5 is transmitted (as well as now and next information), on Freeview DVB-S both are transmitted.

Sky NZ still transmit their guide as EIT which people with DVB-S cards tend to use but of course not everyone has DVB-S card and Sky have made moves to shut down software that scrapes the guide from websites and sites that host any guide of Sky channels without permission (i.e. all sites that host an XMLtv guide of Sky channels). Many Freeview guide programs and sites have been caught up in this so recently people have been more insipired to use the MHEG-5 data.

I believe Freeview in Australia also has plans to use MHEG-5 (albeit also transmitting EIT) so our work may be useful in the future for you.

I'm not sure what Foxtel's OpenTV is but I somewhat doubt it's related to MHEG-5. Most likely it's related to Sky UK's proprietary OpenTV http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/UK_Television perhaps developed by OpenTV the company http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenTV. If so there seem to be various iniatives in the UK to get this working, e.g. http://dvblogic.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=9907&start=0 & http://www.dvbviewer.info/forum/index.php?showtopic=40551 It may already be working with some tools, I don't really know or care that much since I don't live in the UK :-P

You may be able to adapt some of the tools, if you're lucky perhaps even convince someone to help you, but in any case, I suspect it'll be more useful to pursue them then anything here since for Sky NZ the EIT is working fine. Once you've found a reliable way to intepret the data, you could perhaps look at the MHEG-5 tool for importing it to 7MC but I'm not really sure if that'll be necessary I presume whatever they're doing in the UK they've also got their own ways to import it into PVR programs.
