I have a Samsung UA40B6000 LED TV ( so shiney and new ). But my Panasonic DVD Hard drive recorder (HDMI but pre viera link) remote controlled the old pansonic tv (crt) and still controlls the The Panasonic HTC (pre HDMI)

Now the Hard drive recorder remote wont control the new samsung tv (just want volume and chanel nothing to fancy) so back to 2 remotes. Want to upgrade anyway but need to know:

Will the panasonic DMR-BW850GZK or DMR-XW350GZK remote, control the Samsung TV volume and channel functions?

Or (if taranaki ever gets HD Free view) will the tivo remote control those function on the tv?

Thanks all :)

Not at all likely.

Look at a logitech all in one to provide this functionality

The tivo remote has built in codes to control power/volume/AV input for most TVs.

No but if you send me yours I'll test it for you.  I promise I'll return it in a month or two or three :D

Seriously though, the Tivo remote will not control the input (unless I'm missing something looking at mine).  It only does power and volume.

All input comes from the Tivo as once you've got a Tivo you never need to change inputs again!

Having re-read your OP it would appear what you are really after isn't viera link at all, just a remote that has some TV functions on it.  So unless you are looking for an excuse to upgrade to the BW850, which by the way is just a BD recorder/player if you can't get Freeview terrestrial, then the cheapest option is a harmony remote that you program to do all the functions you want.  Viera link(panasonic) and Anynet+(samsung) will probably talk to each other for things like on/off etc but it is a bit of a case of having to experiment once they are connected.  Both owners manuals will have weasel words saying they are CEC compliant but won't necessarily work with other manufacturers products.

HDMI-CEC ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#CEC ) support between different manufacturers is a hit-and-miss thing, and even so with some of products within same manufacturer.

Yeah, it's useless - I have a samsung BD Player & Plasma, and all anynet did was slow everything down.

If I want to change from BD to something else, it takes 10 seconds saying "disconnecting anynet device"
And I happen to select it from the input menu by mistake, thats a good 15 seconds of the TV turning on the BD and it going through it's startup before I can change back.

The only good thing was popping in a disc and when it eventually got around to playing, the TV would turn on & change input.

Thats what I've got a harmony remote for though.

Has anybody used a universal remote with a Samung and been able to program it to change the A/V input? I'm just curious as to whether it's possible with their menu system that forces you to scroll up/down between the various inputs.

Our older LA32S71BX LCD doesn't have individual inputs on the remote - just a single source button. But the individual codes for each input work nicelty on our Harmony remote. Much better than cycling through them one by one. :-)

Guys, to confirm - The TiVo remote has the ability to control AV/Power/Volume/Mute on almost all TV's - Very extensive list of remote codes.

That's cool. It actually makes a Harmony remote more useful that the Samsung one!

Their method of having to scroll up/down is actually quite annoying if you frequently change inputs.
